When anxiety takes over, try this simple exercise
Ever notice how quickly your thoughts can turn “I’m worried” into “I can’t cope”?
Try this:
STOP → BREATHE → CHANGE
1. STOP — Notice the anxious thought without fighting it.
2. BREATHE — Breathe in slowly for 4 seconds, then breathe out gently for 6 seconds. Repeat 3 times.
3. CHANGE — Ask yourself:
“What would I rather be thinking or feeling right now?”
Then imagine that preferred feeling becoming bigger, brighter and closer, while the anxious thought becomes smaller, quieter and further away.
It only takes a minute, but with practice it can help you respond differently when anxiety appears.
This is just one simple technique. Hypnotherapy can help you explore unhelpful thought patterns and develop greater calm, confidence and control.
