Yesterday's Player of the Match as chosen by the staff was Bella!

Her return after two weeks away gave the squad a real boost and she produced a performance that everyone agreed was outstanding.

From the first whistle to the last, Bella battled for every ball and worked tirelessly to disrupt Hednesford's build-up play. Out on the wing she was heavily involved in linking play and providing support to our attacking players.

Later in the game, Bella was asked to move out of position but this did not faze her. She continued to work hard and shine wherever she was needed.

A phenomenal all-round performance and one to be incredibly proud of. Well deserved Bella!

Our return to Tier 5 has not gone quite as we had hoped so far, as we suffered another defeat against the current league leaders, Hednesford Town.
Lichfield had hoped to make a strong start and take the game to the visitors, but the reality was very different. Hednesford came flying out of the blocks and took the lead almost immediately.
A smart turn on the right-hand side allowed the Hednesford player to get beyond the Lichfield defence and drive towards the byline. The ball was then played into the area, where the Hednesford striker reacted instinctively to strike first time and find the back of the net.

The same player almost had a second inside the opening ten minutes when a well-timed long ball over the top sent her through on goal once again. Fortunately for Lichfield, her effort found the side netting in what proved to be an early let-off.
Unfortunately, that let-off did not last long. From the restart, a slight lapse in the Lichfield defence allowed the striker through on goal once again. This time there was no mistake, as a thunderous left-footed finish gave her a brace and Hednesford a two-goal advantage.

Lichfield did have an opportunity at the other end when Skye lifted a ball over the Hednesford back line for Courtney to run onto. Courtney did well to lift the ball over the oncoming goalkeeper, but there was just too much on the effort.
Hednesford continued to create chances throughout the half and peppered the Lichfield goal, while opportunities for the home side were few and far between.

Lichfield were by no means defeated at the break, but knew there was plenty of work to do in the second half.

Unfortunately, a defensive clearance early in the half once again fell kindly to the Hednesford striker. Loz did well to delay her progress with a well-timed sliding challenge, but the forward showed excellent feet to work the ball from underneath her before firing another effort beyond the goalkeeper.

Grace produced some excellent saves as the game entered its closing stages, but Hednesford's striker was not finished. A lovely pass into her feet allowed her to take one touch to create space before unleashing another powerful strike to complete her four-goal haul.

It was a quality performance from Hednesford and a tough afternoon for the squad. However, every Lichfield player gave everything and left nothing on the pitch.

We go again next week as we travel to Port Vale, while we will also be watching tomorrow's results to find out who we will face in the FA Cup on 20 September.

IT'S MATCHDAY!

Our third home game of the season is upon us and we’re delighted to welcome local side Hednesford Town Women to the Trade Tyre Stadium.

After a positive result last time out, the ladies will be looking to carry that momentum into another important league fixture. With both sides eager to make their mark, it promises to be a competitive afternoon of football.

**Lichfield City Lightning Girls U10’s vs Team Ace Miami Girls U10’s**

⚡️ **A NEW SEASON. A NEW AGE GROUP. AND WE’RE BACK!** ⚡️

Today saw our Lightning girls step onto the pitch for the **first game of their U10 season**, and what a way to start — up against a very strong and familiar Ace Miami side.

And if that wasn’t enough of a challenge, our Lightning girls went into today’s game **without a single substitute**, meaning every girl on that pitch had to give everything for the full game. 💪⚡️

There was so much to be proud of.

From the first whistle, the girls worked hard, battled for every ball and showed moments of some fantastic football. They kept trying to play, kept working for one another and, most importantly, **kept going right until the final whistle.**

Ace Miami showed exactly why they enjoyed so much success last season. They were strong, organised and clinical when their opportunities came, but our girls never allowed the game to stop them competing.

With tired legs and no opportunity to rotate, the Lightning girls continued making tackles, creating opportunities and pushing forward. Getting that **first Lightning goal of the new season** was thoroughly deserved! ⚽️⚡️

There’s plenty for us to take away and work on, but that’s exactly what the beginning of a new season is about. These girls have another year of developing, learning and growing together ahead of them, and today showed the determination and team spirit they’re bringing into their U10 season.

**One game down. A whole season ahead.** 💙⚡️

Well played Ace Miami, and a massive well done to every single one of our Lightning girls for giving everything they had today. 👏⚽️

Blurton 2–0 Lichfield City Stars

A battling effort from the Stars today as we unfortunately went down 2–0 to Blurton.

With just 11 players available, including one player who was battling through illness, it was a fantastic effort from the girls. They showed great determination, worked incredibly hard and never gave up, despite the difficult circumstances.

The Stars had the better of the first half and created some good opportunities, with the Blurton goalkeeper making two excellent saves. Against the run of play, Blurton managed to break away and score right on the stroke of half-time.

The girls regrouped at the break and continued to battle hard in the second half, but with tired legs starting to show, Blurton were able to add a second goal.

Overall, I felt it was a really good performance from the girls given the circumstances. The result didn’t go our way, but the effort, determination and team spirit were excellent from start to finish. 💙⭐️

⭐ Player of the Match – Isabelle
A fantastic performance from Isabelle, who played through illness and still gave everything for the team. A real battling display.

👏 Parents’ Player – Anna
Playing out of position on the left, Anna showed fantastic energy and work rate, never stopping running and giving everything until the final whistle.

Full time u13s: Wyrley Phoenix 3 - 4 Lichfield City Griffins.

The Griffin’s 26/27 season kicked off with an Away trip against Wyrley Phoenix.

After a nervous start, Lichfield went 1-0 down after a deflected shot hit the back of the net.
After going 1-0 down the griffins settled into the game and began to play some very good football, utilising long balls as well as passing through the middle. Unfortunately, we found ourselves 2-0 down at the break after being caught on the counter attack.

After half time, we continued to be the better team but needed the goals to show for it. A long kick from Abbie, our new goalkeeper, landed at the feet of Erin who muscled her way through the defence to pull one back.
Wyrley then made it 3-1 with another counter attack.

To their credit, the Lichfield girls continued to play with their heads up. We soon pulled it back to 3-2 then 3-3 soon after with goals from Vicky, assisted by Erin and Erin on target after another ball from Abbie. With time running out, a quickly taken throw- in from Aleigha landed in front of Vicky who was able to advance into the box and calmly slot it home for a well- fought but thoroughly deserved 4-3 win.

A brilliant effort from the whole team with each player playing their part in the win. The whole team should be very proud of themselves.

Lichfield City Girls U16s got their season off to the perfect start as they hosted Chasetown Women Fire U16s and came away with a well-earned 2-0 victory.

There was very little to separate the two sides throughout the match, with both teams showing plenty of quality and creating an entertaining contest. Lichfield remained organised at the back, with goalkeeper Liv looking comfortable and assured with everything that came her way.

The breakthrough came from a well-worked corner, with Franky finding the back of the net to give Lichfield the lead. The girls continued to work hard and their threat from set pieces proved decisive once again, as another excellent corner led to Tilly scoring Lichfield's second of the afternoon.

With both goals coming from well-worked corners, it was a great example of the work the team has been putting into their set pieces and the importance of making those moments count.

A special mention goes to Izzy, who was named Player of the Match for a superb all-round performance. Working tirelessly down the left wing, Izzy covered plenty of ground throughout the game and consistently supported her striker.
Her performance was topped off with an assist, delivering the first corner which led to Lichfield's opening goal.

A fantastic start to the season for the U16s, with plenty of positives to take from a competitive and closely contested fixture.
