What Your Belt Tells Me
Parents often ask me when their child should learn to tie their own belt.
My answer is simple.
As soon as possible.
Not because I’m obsessed with uniforms, but because over the years I’ve learned that something as simple as tying a belt tells me a lot about a student’s mindset.
By the time a student reaches Green Belt, I expect them to tie their own belt properly and consistently.
Why?
Because when I see a student walk into class, get themselves ready and tie their belt without being asked, it tells me they’re taking ownership.
It tells me they pay attention to detail.
It tells me they’re invested in their training.
Most importantly, it tells me they’re ready for the next level.
On the other hand, when a student still relies on a parent to tie their belt or hasn’t taken the time to learn, that tells me something too.
It tells me they’re not yet ready for the next layer of refinement.
Martial arts is full of these seemingly small things that are actually huge.
How you tie your belt.
How you bow.
How you stand.
How you carry yourself in the dojo.
The belt itself isn’t important.
What it represents is.
Learning to tie your own belt shows you’re willing to take responsibility for your training instead of relying on someone else.
To parents: encourage your children to learn. Let them struggle. Let them make mistakes. Independence is built one small habit at a time.
To our students: remember that your belt is more than something that holds your uniform together. It’s a reflection of the standards you hold yourself to.
Because believe it or not…
How you tie your belt tells me a lot about how seriously you take your training.

One thing I’m really proud of with our team is that we never stop learning.
Wednesday was all about getting together to pressure test, refine, and fine tune parts of our self defence curriculum. Not just focusing on the techniques themselves, but also improving how we teach, communicate, and coach under pressure so we can continue giving our students the best experience possible on the mats.
There were great discussions, lots of problem solving, plenty of laughs, and a lot of attention to detail throughout the session. High level instruction doesn’t happen by accident. It comes from a team that’s willing to keep learning, keep improving, and keep raising standards.
Really proud of everyone’s effort and attitude today. Iron sharpens iron. 👊
Always learning. Always improving.

May the 4th be with you… 💥
Wishing all of our Premier Martial Arts families a fantastic Star Wars Day — and an even better Bank Holiday Monday.
Whether you’re relaxing, spending time with family, or enjoying a well-earned break… we hope you’re making the most of it 🙌
Today is a great reminder that real strength doesn’t come from a galaxy far, far away…
It’s built right here through discipline, focus, and consistency on the mats.
We’re looking forward to seeing everyone back in class tomorrow, ready to train, improve, and level up 👊
Be strong. Be focused. Be disciplined. Be Premier.

TEENS & ADULTS GRADING 👊🔥
Massive well done to all of our teens and adults who graded this week across both schools.
From 15 all the way up to 65…
Different ages, different journeys… but the same commitment to getting better.
That’s what makes this so powerful.
Everyone stepped up, pushed themselves and gave their best on the mats.
Grading isn’t just about belts…
It’s about confidence, discipline and having the courage to test yourself.
And that’s exactly what we saw this week.
Proud of every single one of you 👊
