Altofts made the long trip Keighley Cricket Club on another warm, sunny day.

Captain Jordan Carter (sponsored by Marshall Electrical ) lost the toss and was invited to bat first against a Keighley side well known for their chasing ability.

Andrew Wood (sponsored by Rethink Food) and Saif Tahir (sponsored by Dewsbury Dental surgery) went in as 1 and 2 and started steadily against the lively Keighley new ball bowlers. The pair played some nice shots as they brought up the 50 partnership. The partnership was eventually broken with the score on 67 with Saif run out for 38 which included 8 fours.

Shams Dost (sponsored by Adilco Accountants) came in at 3 and set about things in his usual busy fashion. Andrew was finding his timing at the other end and the pair took the score past 100. Shams made 26 before being caught behind with the score on 26.

Dean Van Onselen (sponsored by Stacey Haughey Mortgage & Protection Adviser) was in at 4 and looked to pick the rate up as the overs started slipping away. He and Wood played some lovely shots as they added 51 before Dean was caught at long on for 27.

Ben Walsh (sponsored by Digital Image Lounge), in at 5, was in determined mood, and looked confident from the off. Andrew, wilting slight in the sunshine, played some inventive scoops and reverse hits as he found a way to manufacture runs..unfortunately it was one manufacture too many, as he charged a bouncer from the Keighley paceman, Zeeshan - Andrew taking a sickening blow to the head. Fortunately he was ok and wanted to continue, but wisely, the umpire insisted on him retiring hurt to get checked out. In typical Andrew Wood fashion his biggest concern was making sure he hadn't been given out! He retired on a very well made 86 which included 12 fours.

Once the game restarted, Ben went into overdrive pushing Altofts up to a competitive 270/3 - Ben finishing on a terrific 64 from 42 balls which included 5 fours and 2 sixes.

Altofts knew they would have to bowl well in-spite of the sizeable score on the board.

Josh Morris (sponsored by Rexel UK) and Craig Wood (sponsored by DT Installations) opened up but found it hard to stem the flow of runs as the Keighley openers went hard. The pair brought up the 100 partnership in just the 15th over, before Saif finally made the breakthrough.

Altofts managed to get some control back and Craig took another wicket to force the door open. 2 more quick wickets from Woody and Josh put the game in the balance on 157/4. However, a terrific century partnership from Keighley took the game away from Altofts and the home side eventually got home 5 down with 7 balls to spare.

Craig Wood was excellent yet again with 2/55 and the visitors played some good cricket, especially with the bat but just came up short.

Our 2nd XI welcomed Cleckheaton Cricket Club down the lane on another hot summers day. To the delight of his teammates, skipper Craig Bryant (sponsored by Tech Clad Ltd) lost the toss, and we were asked to bowl in the heat.

Sam Naylor (sponsored by Azo Ltd) and Craig took the new ball and made a steady start. Sam took the first wicket after a nice catch from young Henry Perry to make it 11-1. Runs then started to flow, so David Didz Illingworth (sponsored by Epic Travel) replaced Sam and the ever reliable Adam Perry (sponsored by Boilers2go) at the other end. Immediate reward for David after a catch at gully by Luke Weston (sponsored by McCormack Opticians), to make it 41-2. He then bowled the opener for 35 for 63-3.

Skipper Richard Noble then went on the attack and a big score looked on the cards. However, Craig threw the ball to Richard Bizzle Barber (sponsored in Memory of Chris Lethbridge) to try and stem the tide. Despite going into the football field a few times, he managed to bowl the Cleckheaton skipper as he danced down the track for 110-4. Momemtum though continued for the visitors until their stumper inexplicably smashed his own stumps for 144-5. That soon became 144-6 as Rich bowled the next batter first ball.

No.5 reached his 50 and started to take the strike with the arrival of their youngsters. However, after refusing a single too many, Adam Perry got his reward and bowled him to make it 162-7.

With us back in charge, Sam replaced Richard and took the next, after a catch from our other youngster Jack O'Malley (sponsored by KR Construction) to make it 176-8. Nehal Rana (sponsored by KPM Fire) then showed us his bullet arm running out the next for 178-9 and then Sam wrapped up the innings for 179. A great effort in the heat. Sam finishing on 3-27, Richard 3-37 and David 2-28.

Joe Plater (sponsored by Sophie Carter Hair ) partnered Luke and got off to a solid start. The usual defensive pair turned into 1 day specialists and we raced to 30 before Joe was trapped LBW. David came in at 3 and the runs ticked as both he and Luke went on the attack.

Luke brought up a well deserved second 50 of the season and smashed 2 sixes, one which nearly killed the BBQ at cow corner. David smashed 7 fours of his own before falling on 39 to make it 123-2. Adam was in next and fell first ball after a lengthy wait to be given out LBW for 123-3.

What happened next is just Altofts to a tee. Needing just over 50 to win with 7 wickets remaining, the nerves started to jangle. Richard joined Luke hoping to bring us home. However, Luke went chasing another high wide and edged one behind to finish on a brilliant 72 to make it 134-4.

Nehal was in next, but again went to smash the wrong ball skying it to the safe hands of the away skipper. 142-5. Young Jack entered the fray and lasted 3 overs before being bowled to make it 150-6. Skipper Craig joined Richard needing 30 for victory. However, Richard was caught behind for 20 to make 150-7.

Sam was in next before Craig misjudged a slow ball for 156-8. Young Henry came to the crease and supported Sam well. He hit a lovely 4 to bring us closer to victory, but was then stumped last ball of the over for 164-9.

Antony Hill (sponsored by Harvey's Pet Sitting Services) was last man in and both him and Sam rotated the ball well.

Needing 7 to win with just 1 wicket meant no mistakes. However, Tony knicked off to slip and we were bowled out for 173. Sam finishing unbeaten on 13.

In a game that was almost won at 123-1, we somehow again managed to grab defeat from the jaws of victory. Luke and David's efforts going to waste. A mentality problem that needs to be fixed if we want to avoid relegation.

We travel to top of the table Morley next week in another difficult game.

Altofts v Wakefield Thornes U13s 8 July 2026

On a glorious Wednesday summers evening, we welcomed the well established Wakefield Thornes Cricket Club down the lane.

Captain Billy Bryant won another toss and elected to bowl in an attempt to restrict the visitors to a chasable score.

Jayden Darbyshire and Noah Jenkinson opened the bowling. Wickets were hard to come by, but we battled well in the heat trying to keep Thornes to 6 an over.

Our plan appeared to be working as Zak Malyan took the first wicket bowling the opener in the 9th over for 50-1. However, another partnership followed before Luke Rigby bowled No.3 batter to make it 83-2 in the 13thover.

With 3 overs to go, Thornes were on 107-2. However, some wayward bowling and poor fielding meant the visitors plundered 36 runs to close their innings on 143-2.

Jayden and Noah Stogden opened up with the instruction to rotate the strike and keep up with the run rate. A wayward 2nd over saw us take control as we smashed 22 runs. However, Noah S was bowled in the 3rd over to make it 26-1. Dexter Robinson was in next, but struggled to repeat recent form and he was dismissed for 1 and 35-2. That soon became 36-3 as Zak Malyan left without scoring.

Harley Roebuck joined Jayden at the crease trying to get us back in the game. Jayden went on to retire again in the 8th over scoring an impressive 25 off 16 balls, which included 3 fours and 1 six. Skipper Billy was next in hoping to continue his recent form. However, he was dismissed for 5 to leave us on 60-4.

Will Upton was up next, and he smashed a couple of quick fire boundaries as we upped the run rate. Harley continued to impress at the other end and also started to rotate the strike well. A partnership of 28 followed before Will was bowled on 11 to make it 88-5.

Harley went on to smash a couple of boundaries to retire on a very well deserved first retirement of the year on 26 not out. 2 new batters at the crease in Seth Camm and Luke. The game looked out of reach as we now needed 50 off the last 4 overs. However, Luke smashed a couple of boundaries in 2 balls to give us hope in the 18th over. 10 runs followed in the 19th over following another boundary from Seth. However, we only scored 1 run from the last 2 balls leaving us to get 21 off the last over.

After running 3 off the first ball, Luke was run-out 2nd ball leaving 11 off 11 balls. A decent partnership for 125-6. Noah J was in next and smashed a four 4th ball, but the game was now out of reach. Seth managed a lovely four off the last delivery to close our innings on 134-6, just 9 short. Seth finishing on 15 not out off 10 balls and Noah on 5 not out.

Despite a valiant run chase, a disappointing result in a game that was there for the taking. We bowled relatively well and mostly kept to our plan of restricting the visitors to 6 an over. Jayden, Noah J, Seth and Harley the pick of the bowlers all going for less than 5 an over. However, some very poor fielding including 29 extras cost us dearly and was the difference between the 2 teams.

Our mid to lower order batters did well after a shaky start. Jayden and Harley with deserved retirements and supported well by Will, Seth and Luke. 5 batters finishing on strike rates of more than 100 was pleasing to see.

Congratulations to Wakefield Thornes in what was an exciting game. These were games we got nowhere near to competing in last year, so the development continues.

We drop to 7th in the table and travel to top of the league Methley next week, in what will be another tough challenge for the boys.

On a red hot Thursday night, Altofts under 11s welcomed Hunslet Nelson Cricket Club down the Lane.

Captain Alex R won the toss and decided to bat first in the heat. First pair Freddie (7) who hit a boundary and a 6, had a brilliant start, but unfortunately lost his wicket once. Hudson did some good singles, but also lost his wicket due to some good bowling.

Next pair, Tristan (2) did some smart singles and ran well on the extras. Noah (6) hit a lovely boundary and looked after his wicket well. Next in was Jack T (18), hit 4 boundaries and some good singles and batted really well and Alex K (8) also hit 2 boundaries and batted very well, also running on the extras.

The last pair of William S top scorer on (20) hit 3 boundaries and ran very well in the heat and his partner Captain Alex (13) including 2 boundaries and some lovely shots.

Altofts ended their innings 110/5, a net score of 285.

With the ball there was a wicket a piece for Tristan, Jack, Hudson and Alex, with very good overs from William, Jack, Freddie and Hudson. Top fielding from Noah who made some really good stops, with Freddie, Tristan, Hudson and Alex who all took catches, including a stumping from wicket keeper Alex.

Hunslet Nelson were restricted to 69/4, a net score of 249, a 36 run win for the Tofts boys.

It was a brilliant team performance and shows how far we have come.

TABS CC - Thorp Arch & Boston Spa Cricket Club v Altofts Angels 5th July 2026

A must win game and the tightest of finishes were the ingredients of this latest encounter of the West Yorkshire Women and Girls Cricket softball cricket Division 1, as Altofts travelled to Boston Spa to take on the TABS girls who were confident after seeing off Altofts earlier in the season.

Altofts took a strong side and appeared all revved up for the game, and although the toss was lost it was TABS that decided to bat first.

Returning captain Sophie Scaife (sponsored by Yates Dry Wall Ltd) gave the side a much needed boost, and needed to have her wits about her, in a swirling wind and a short boundary on one side.

Altofts got off to the perfect start with Julie Bush (sponsored by Masterclass Education Yorkshire) making the TABS batter play a wide one, to be caught at deep gully by Scaife. Things got even better for Bush as the same batter was out 3rd ball, clipping one to Stacie Potter (sponsored by KDL renovation ) behind the wicket.

The two TABS batters improved for the rest of their partnership, as they added a respectable 20 to the total. The second pairing started slowly due to some good lines by Jackie Carter (sponsored by Ali Carter Temple Spa Consultant) and Joanne Walsh (sponsored by Maslen Tailormade Travel), with Walsh bagging a wicket trapping the TABS player LBW bang in front of the wicket.

Kelly Goodwin (sponsored by GSL Education) did a little jig of joy as she bowled her compatriot with her second ball, self-claiming it was her first wicket, (it wasnโ€™t actually, it was the first time sheโ€™d bowled someone ๐Ÿ˜Š). Then got duly smacked for four next ball! The second pair restricted to 15.

On to the engine room, and Vicky Dunnill (sponsored by John Dunnill Landscapes) and Sonic Junior AKA Emily Goodwin (sponsored by DJ Prem) started really well. Young Goodwin getting a nice caught and bowled, before Kelly wrapped up the third partnership with her second wicket and another fine catch in the deep from Scaife.

With only 12 more added, it was down to the final TABS pairing and their two strongest batters to add some runs, which they duly did, adding 31 to the total, with only a tight run out their only blip.

TABS made 279, some great fielding especially by Emily, who saved a lot of runs on the leg-side boundary. Our only issue was three dropped catches, whilst all were high, the girls were disappointed they didnโ€™t stick.

The total was certainly in reach, but the girls knew they had to switch on and play properly.

Stacie Potter came out and hit some lovely boundaries, backed up by Jo Walsh, with Stacieโ€™s only negative being a stray shot that cost her 5 runs as she was caught in the 2nd over. A great start with 32 added.

The speed demons were up next, with Kelly Sonic Goodwin and her faster daughter walked into bat. However the highs of the previous week seemed to turn into nerves, as first Kelly was caught and then a crazy run out by Emily thinking she was Usain Bolt hit the Altofts innings. With only another 9 added it was 50/50 at halfway.

Jools and Jackie were up next, the latter hitting a wonderful cover drive boundary, only to see Jools lose her first wicket caught in the field. 2 more fours from Carter shifted the momentum back in Altofts favour, until the girls then imploded. First Carter was out caught, then next ball Bush was out in a similar fashion and then nerves started to kick in as another wicket fell. The match had seesawed back into the TABS laps. However, a good final over of 9, meant a positive result at least and it gave the last pairing a glimmer of hope.

Up stepped Vicky Dunnill and Captain Scaife, cometh the hour cometh the woman (think thatโ€™s correct ๐Ÿ˜Š). The pair knew that no wickets could be lost and that over 30 runs were needed to be scored. Scaife got the team off to a great start, with a boundary off the first ball and then 4 more runs added. 1st over down, 9 runs added, 24 needed.

2nd over and Scaife dominated the strike, hitting another boundary that went through the TABS players legs. A bit of good fortune which was loudly noted by the travelling clan.
9 off the over, 15 still required.

Some scrambled singles and a well run double kept the score ticking along but only 7 from it meaning 8 required to win.

Final over. Scaife hit the first ball for 4, again going straight through the TABS player on the boundary, cue wild scenes as some of the husbands just couldnโ€™t watch! 4 required, then a dot ball, then a single and it was now up to Vicky not to go walkabout from her crease whilst the ball was still in play, and switch on. Well switch on she did, as she hit the first ball for 2. Match tied. Get a wicket now and itโ€™s all in vain, stop the ball and a famous win.

Not only did she stop it, she hit it for a certain single and then both ladies for some unknown reason ran again! Any slip, trip or fall would have been catastrophic and believe me, these two have form for such events! Anyways this time, all was good. Both ladies home with nano-seconds to spare and the team returned to Altofts like a fly stuck in a windowโ€ฆbuzzing.

The TABS ladies once again played their part in what was a very good advertisement for the womens game, fun, competitive and supportive. Great hosts, lovely ground, and even better result.

If the England v Mexico game is anything as exciting, weโ€™ll be in for a treat ๐Ÿคฃโ€ฆ

The Mars Bar Player of the Match went to Captain Scaife for her heroics with the bat and two great catches, but all played their part.

Our 1st XI hosted Northowram Fields CC on another very windy day down the lane and Captain Jordan Carter (sponsored by Marshall Electrical ) won the toss and elected to bat.

The innings started in horrendous fashion as Saif Tahir (sponsored by Dewsbury Dental Centre) was caught behind the very first ball and was followed back to the changing rooms by Andrew Wood (sponsored by Rethink Food) and Shams Dost (sponsored by AdilCo Accountants) not long after to make it 26-3.

Dean Van Onselen (sponsored by Stacey Haughey Mortgage & Protection Adviser) and Richard Vigars (sponsored by Holly Vigars Sports Therapy) worked hard to rebuild the innings before RV was dismissed for 18.

Dean passed his 50 and had crucial partnerships with Ben Walsh (20) (sponsored by Digital Image Lounge) and Craig Wood (36)(sponsored by DT Installations) before Dean was bowled for a great knock of 77 as the score was at 179-8.

Craig and Conor Andrews (sponsored by Vivedia Ltd) put on another great partnership of 31 before Craig was caught at Deep mid-wicket for 36 and the innings was curtailed shortly after for 214.

A below par score was emphatically knocked off by the Northowram batters with only Saif and Josh Morris (sponsored by Rexel UK) taking a wicket a piece as Phillipson (110*) and Khan (85*) comfortably won the match.

A below par performance that needs to be put to bed, and we go again next week with a long trip to Keighley who currently sit in 2nd place.

๐Ÿ

After last week's disappointing defeat, the 2nd XI took the long journey to Northowram Fields hoping to get back to winning ways.

Rain delayed the start before Captain Craig Bryant (sponsored by Tech Clad Ltd) lost his first toss, and we were asked to bowl. Sam Naylor (sponsored by Azo Ltd) and 13 year old Jayden Darbyshire (sponsored by Hideaway treehouse retreat) took the new ball. We got off to a great start with Sam dismissing the opener after a good catch from Steven Rigby (sponsored by Rigby joinery) to make it 8-1.

Jayden bowled well in his first spell and was unlucky not to pick up a wicket after 2 dropped catches. The fine drizzle however, was making it hard to grip with Adam Perry (sponsored by Boilers2go) joining the attack. After 2 wayward deliveries, he bowled a beauty to dismiss the No.3 to make it 58-2.

However, those early dropped catches proved costly as the home skipper and No.4 went on the attack. They punished some wayward bowling and a score of well over 300 looked odds on, until David Didz Illingworth (sponsored by Epic travel ) joined the attack. He managed to bag the opener, following a catch from Richard Bizzle Barber (sponsored in Memory of Chris Lethbridge) to make it 182-3 and a partnership of 124. That quickly became 189-4 after David took a smart caught and bowled to dismiss the dangerous No.4. David then trapped the next batter first ball for 189-5.

Adam carried on working hard at the other end and got his reward next, getting a LBW decision for 209-6. He then bowled the next for 218-7. That soon became 227-8 with David's fourth wicket. A lovely run out from Antony Hill (sponsored by Harvey's Pet Sitting Services) followed after he had a shy at the bowler's end to make it 232-9.

An amazing recovery looked on the cards, but veteran Jason Smith rolled back the years and batted the remaining overs to finish unbeaten on 49 and the hosts closing on 268-9. David finishing with 4-48 and Pez on 3-82.

With a big total to reach, Dom Richardson (sponsored by Boilers2Go) and Steve Rigby set out to the crease hoping to take advantage of the small ground. However, we got off to a poor start with Steve caught behind on 2 for 9-1. That quickly became 9-2 as Rich Barber was bowled 2nd ball.

Adam Perry came in next to try and get our innings on track. However, Dom went for 1 shot too many leaving on 13 to make it 27-3. David Illingworth joined Pez at the crease and both started to score freely before David got out to a poor ball and was caught out at mid-wicket for 15 and 51-4.

The extravagant Nehal Rana (sponsored by KPM Fire) came to the crease and the runs started to flow. A 50 partnership followed and an interesting chase looked possible before the impressive Pez was caught out for 40 and 104-5. Elliott Hopwood was in at 7 for his chance, but was bowled first ball for 104-6.

Skipper Craig joined Nehal and both started to rotate the strike well. However, Craig was bowled by Smith for 8 after 1 cut shot too many for 131-7. Sam was in next, but he also failed to trouble the scorer leaving for a 2nd ball duck and 131-8. Nez seeing partners running out went for one hoick too many and the ball went up high whilst his bat was flung towards the ducking square leg umpire. Nez managed 40 including 5 fours and 2 sixes. 131-9.

Tony joined Jayden at the crease and he decided to go on the attack. He managed 5 fours whilst Jayden defended well at the other end. However, Jayden was finally bowled for 7 closing our innings on 164. Tony left unbeaten on 26 off 20 balls.

Another disapointing defeat. However, our chances were dented by having to ball with a wet ball. Things could have been a lot worse, but we battled well after drinks. David and Pez bringing us back in to game. Jayden continues to impress.

Our chase didn't get off to the start we wanted but we dug in a bit and our run rate was good. Let down by some poor shot selections. However, Pez and Nehal batted well and Tony ensured we picked up some valuable bonus points.

We welcome Cleckheaton at home next week, trying to get back to winning ways.
