This Sunday we face AFC Howden in our final preseason friendly before the season commences, in what will be a great test for the lads, who will be looking to continue a fine run of form.

💙 Banks make it 12 unbeaten going into their final friendly before the HSFL season. 🤍

Banks played out a quality game today, dominating in large spells and s***fing out the majority of the opposing attacks.

In the first half Banks dominated play from the outset, and struck first, in the 6th min as C.Morgan-Hanson played a spectacular ball into S.Winstanley who coolly converted. Banks continued to command the game, creating the better chances. In the 26th minute, S.Winstanley hit his second of the game, a well worked long pass from J.Ehlert was met by S.Winstanley who snuck behind from the right to meet the ball and struck a thunderous strike that rifled into the top right corner to send Banks two to the good. Just moments later, C.Morgan-Hanson was hacked down in the Matts area, CMH dusted himself off and smashed home from the spot kick to extend the lead. Banks played some great football up to the Half time break and went into the sheds deservedly in front by such a margin.

In the 2nd half, Matts began to play their self into the game, stringing together some great sequences however Banks held firm. However, after a mix up at the back, Matts striker pinched the ball and converted from close range to cut the deficit. Banks soon worked their way back into the game and carved out some great opportunities that went begging. On 70th minute, Banks rounded off their scoring as K.Wadforth slid a neat ball into the path of N.Oladjko, who brushed off a man and fired home from just inside the area. Matts grabbed a consolation goal in the dying stages after a lapse at the back but Banks held strong to see out a great result.

A spectacular performance at the back, keeping the lads shaped and strong, stepped up and progressed the ball well from the back and cleared his lines at every opportunity. A resolute performance 👏

Hull Athletic 1sts 3-3 AFC Banks

Banks play out a superb end to end draw, with a well drilled side.

Banks hit their rhythm within moments of the game, stamping their authority and dominating the early midfield battle. In the 4th minute, J.Stonehouse picked the ball up in the middle of the park, before beating a man and sliding an intricate ball through to T.Munjeri who coolly converted. Within the next 30 mins, Banks continued to win the battle in the middle of the park, and flashing glimpses of a 2nd goal, however it was Athletic who struck first, with a well taken goal by the striker. Hull Athletic then took the lead through a well worked set piece routine caught the banks defence short, and on the 39th minute, extended their lead after a sluggish shot, took a heavy deflection and burrowed itself inside the post for Banks to go 3-1 down. On the 44th minute, seconds before the half time whistle, Banks halved the deficit, as R.Thomas’ headed flick on from a great K.Zlotos goal kick, found S.Winstanley who beat the offside trap and shot past the opposing defenders to beat the keeper 1v1. In the 2nd half, the game was very evenly balanced with both teams carving out some great chances, near misses and forcing some great saves from the GKs, with a very level contested middle of the park. As the game began to creep on, Banks began creating the better opportunities, regularly testing the opposition defence and GK. in the 78th min, B.Blyth delivered a long range free kick into the Athletic box, in which L.MacMillan was dragged to the floor, winning Banks a penalty, up stepped D.Gibbs who stepped up and calmly dispatched a magnificently taken penalty to draw the game level going into the closing stages. In the dying embers, K.Zlotos was forced into a superb 1v1 save as the opposition attacker breached the defence and drew 1v1 in which K.Zlotos displayed some great reflexes and parried away a certain goal. Banks sprung a counter of their own concluding with the ball landing at the feet of T.Munjeri who let rip from 30 yards out, his shot whistling past the upright. In the last 2 minutes, Banks launched a barrage of long balls into the Athletic area, where Banks attackers S.Winstanley & R.Thomas routinely met these but was denied by the opposition GK. FT 3-3

MOTM: J.Zlotos

This evenings man of the match is awarded to Jakub Zlotos, who deputised in goal at short notice and played out an amazing display in between the sticks. Kuba made some great reflex and split second saves to keep Banks in the tie throughout the evening, quick off his line to s***f out any danger and an ever present in goal. J.Zlotos distribution was second to none, launching consistent Banks attacks from his feet and even notched up a pre assist, with a magnificent sweeping ball that was nodded on by R.Thomas.

A huge draw for the lads, and an awe-inspiring display from all involved.

Our focus turns to Sunday where we will be facing Matts Legends at Steve Prescott Centre, 2pm KO.

Banks are back in action tonight, facing Hull Athletic 1sts Saturday team, in what will be a challenging test for the lads, and continue getting fitness in the legs for the boys.

AFC Banks 10–2 Football For All York

Banks hit double figures in a commanding display as they cruised to a convincing win.

Banks wasted absolutely no time in taking control of the contest, opening the scoring inside the very first minute. C. Morgan-Hanson picked out B. Blyth on the edge of the area, with Blyth making no mistake as he fired home to give Banks the perfect start. Blyth doubled both his and Banks’ tally just four minutes later. J. Stonehouse floated a superb delivery into his path from a deep free kick and Blyth met it brilliantly, finishing to make it 2–0 after just five minutes. The hosts made it three in the 13th minute. K. Wadforth slipped S. Winstanley through, with the forward timing his run perfectly to beat the offside trap before calmly dispatching beyond the goalkeeper. Winstanley then turned provider in the 35th minute, returning the favour as he teed up K. Wadforth, who converted to grab his first of the afternoon and make it 4–0. Banks weren’t finished there. T. Munjeri produced an excellent cut-back for Winstanley, who swept home his second of the game, before R. Thomas added a sixth after racing onto a well-weighted ball from R. Laycock. Football For All York managed to find two goals of their own in the dying embers of the half, reducing the deficit before the break.

Within five minutes of the restart, K. Wadforth struck his second of the afternoon to restore Banks’ five-goal cushion.The eighth followed in the 55th minute as R. Thomas delivered a tantalising ball into the path of S. Winstanley, who met it superbly to complete his hat-trick. in the 78th minute, B. Blyth joined Winstanley in claiming a hat-trick of his own. C. Morgan-Hanson unselfishly cut the ball back across goal, allowing Blyth to convert from close range for number nine. The scoring was finally rounded off in the 88th minute. J. Roberts released R. Thomas down the right, with Thomas driving forward, beating two defenders and finishing from close range to bring up double figures.

All credit to the Football For All lads, who travelled from York with depleted numbers and gave it their all, it just wasn’t to be on the day.

Banks came out on top after an entertaining and fiercely contested encounter, producing some brilliant football and showing plenty of character to see out a deserved 3–2 victory.

The opening half hour was very much Banks however, it was Springhead who struck first, catching Banks on the counter before coolly converting to take the lead.

The response from the Banks boys was excellent. On 36 minutes, a through ball from T. Munjeri allowed S. Winstanley to apply the pressure, win possession and fire home to bring us level.

Then, right on the stroke of half-time, Banks produced the moment of the match. J. Stonehouse whipped a superb free-kick forward from deep inside the Banks half, where L. Mulligan met it brilliantly on the volley from the edge of the area, rifling his effort into the bottom corner to complete the turnaround.

HT: Banks 2–1 Springhead

The second half continued in much the same fashion, with a proper midfield battle complemented by some excellent counter-attacking football from both sides.

Banks finally found some breathing room in the 79th minute.S.Winstanley caught Springhead on the counter, played some neat football with E.Crawford who then played in S. Winstanley, who converted from the edge of the box to grab his second of the afternoon and put Banks 3–1 up.

Springhead refused to go away and pulled one back in the closing stages, setting up a nervy finish. But the Banks lads held their nerve, dug in and showed great resolve to see out another impressive victory.
