Another good session on the Bass! Managed 2, lost 2 and one will have a Surf Seeker in its mouth as an accessory lol!

Saturday Bass’in! Fished 1pm-5pm a couple miles north of a mark that I usually go too on the SW coast and it produced so I’m chuffed with that 🎣 Fergi enjoyed another day out too

Good 1hour 30 power sesh

Landed 5 Bass, hooked into 9 and lost a Sea Trout at my feet!

Bass are my favourite fish to tackle on a lure

All returned safely to fight on and breed

Brilliant day on the Bass! 🎣

They seem to love white lures, especially the top waters! Counted 8 top water chases that I witnessed, could’ve been more when I was watching my surroundings instead of the water lol !!

Sitting reminiscing on my couch about the times years ago at school from the ages of 12 and upwards where if I wasn’t playing Call of Duty I’d be down the bank on the River Irvine with my mates, we’d be fishing for anything that would bite our hooks, trying all sorts of weird and wonderful rigs and baits to try and catch some fish. Now I’m 30, close to 31 and I can still remember those sessions like it was yesterday, I remember getting home, waders on, fly rod, bag and back on the bus to head to the river and fish there til the last bus home. I remember catching my first ever trout on a fly rod underneath the viaduct between Killie and C’holm and the field we’d walk through is now Kilmarnock FC’s training grounds. I used to love going into Torbets in Killie, I can still smell that shop to this day and I can still picture the lay out, we’d go in with a fiver and go mental on the flies only to put some of which 30ft above us in a tree but d’you know what? I would do it all again for another day like that.

I left fishing to persue other things but weirdly I always knew I’d come back to it and I am so happy I did, fishing has united me with my best mate from when we were kids, it’s given me some fantastic lads that I now call my best pals that I’d trust with my life and always have my back as I have theirs and it’s shown me many different areas of our nation and the UK that not many other sports can do.

Fishing is more than catching fish.

MOG on Friday, all it produced was Mackerels and a lot of W**d, Saturday was the best day at another mark on the SW, had a nice wee Huss, a big Pollack took my bait and I took its jaw bone, a good few Pollack, and loads of Duggies and today was shocking lol

We go again.

Looking forward to the next 3 days of Angling with my boys down the SW! Ritchie Stirrat Darren Clark and wee Jai (cany find yer tag) hopefully some toothys and big Bass!!!

Going to take a wee night time jolly down the local on the fly, waters very very low so my hopes for a big in is as low as the water but some times it is actually the being out that matters (my competitive mentality disagrees)

🚨 ANOTHER MAJOR BLOW TO ANGLERS IN AYRSHIRE 🚨

75 YEARS OF HISTORY COULD BE WIPED OUT.

Craigendunton Reservoir is set to be drained, and the local angling club I am proud to be a member of has been told that we must vacate the premises by Boxing Day this year.

Let that sink in.

For 75 years, anglers have enjoyed this water. Generations of people have fished here, formed friendships, competed in annual competitions and created memories that can never be replaced.

Now, after three-quarters of a century, it could all be brought to an end with the stroke of a pen.

How is this acceptable?

We constantly hear that people need more opportunities to get outdoors, improve their physical and mental wellbeing and take part in healthy activities. We are told that communities need more places for people to connect and that children and young people should spend less time behind screens.

Yet here we are, watching another valuable outdoor resource potentially disappear.

And this isn’t just about anglers.

There are hundreds of fish in this reservoir. There is wildlife that relies on this water. This is an ecosystem that has existed for generations.

What happens to all of that when the water is drained?

Where is the consideration for the environmental impact? Where is the consideration for the people who have invested 75 years of time, money, passion and dedication into this place?

And for what?

Are we really going to stand by and watch another piece of Ayrshire’s natural heritage disappear, only to potentially see the land repurposed for yet more developments that offer little benefit to the people who actually live here?

Enough is enough.

Our local waters, wildlife and outdoor spaces should be protected, not simply written off when they no longer fit someone’s plans.

This isn’t just the loss of a reservoir.

It is the potential loss of 75 years of history, tradition, community and memories.

It is the loss of a place where generations of anglers have learned their craft, shared stories, competed, relaxed and enjoyed the simple freedom of being outdoors.

Once it is gone, we cannot bring it back.

I sincerely hope that those responsible will listen to the concerns of the angling community and work with us to find a solution that protects this water for future generations.

Because 75 years of history should not be erased without a fight.
