Cookley Sports Youth U13 Lionesses v Old Wulfrunians U13 girls.

After a delayed start to the season, our young Lionesses were full of enthusiasm and started the game fast, pinning OW in their own half.
The wind was strong and against us meaning everyone had to adjust their game but they adapted well and continued making positive chances. Apart from occasional opportunities, it was the Lionesses who enjoyed the majority of play for the first twenty minutes but then OW seemed to settle into their stride and evened up the game, putting together some good opportunities themselves which needed some timely and solid interventions from our defenders.
Our first proper chance came 25 minutes in when a move that built up down the right wing resulted in a shot that bounced off the uprights but narrowly bounced out.
In the dying minutes of the first half OW broke through our defensive back line and against the run of play scored the first goal of the game to go 1-0 up.
The Lionesses started the second half at pace with the wind now in our favour and their brilliant passing moves led to a convincing equaliser which built up from Saraiya through to Issy down the right wing who then crossed the ball in past the keeper for Daisey to hit home.
Confidence was high and the Lionesses went 2-1 up shortly afterwards when Daisey nearly took out the back of the net with a powerful shot into the top of the goal.
Our third was inevitable with dominant performances all over the pitch. It came from a strong drive down the right wing again by Issy whose shot on goal bobbled past the keeper and Daisey was on hand to poke it home, completing her first hat-trick of the season.
The game finished 3-1 and considering it was the first game of their season in a higher league, representing their new club, the girls should be commended for their hard work, strong physicality and determination as they managed the step up brilliantly and well deserved the result.

🦁 Introducing our new Captain — Ava! 🦁

Ava has been with the team since we first started back in 2023, and we couldn’t be more delighted to see her take on the role of captain.

As well as being a quality and clever player in the middle of the pitch, Ava has consistently shown incredible leadership skills both on and off the pitch. She is always willing to step up and help lead the warm up before matches and is someone her teammates can rely on.

Her communication and encouragement are exceptional. Ava is always there to pick her teammates up when they’re down, motivate them when they need it and, most importantly, make sure they know when they’ve done well.

She leads by example, shows great respect for everyone around her and always puts the team first.

We are incredibly proud of Ava and can’t wait to see her lead the Cookley U13 Lionesses this season🦁💪

🦁 Introducing our new Vice Captain — Ivy! 🦁

Ivy joined the team in 2024 and has continued to grow in confidence and leadership ever since. She is someone who always tries to lead by example and gives everything she has for the team.

Her non-stop energy and enthusiasm are infectious, and she is constantly encouraging her teammates and filling those around her with confidence. Whether it’s on the pitch or from the sidelines, Ivy is always looking to support and motivate the team.

Over the past few weeks, her communication has improved massively, and she has really started to find her voice on the pitch. This is a fantastic part of her development and something we’re excited to see continue as she takes on more responsibility.

Ivy’s attitude, energy and willingness to support those around her make her a fantastic choice for Vice Captain.

We’re incredibly proud of her and can’t wait to see her continue to grow into the role with the Cookley U13 Lionesses 🦁💪

Tonight we saw the girls travel away to play against Galaxy Comets for a pre season friendly.

Considering the pitch conditions were tough and it being very windy the girls created lots of pressure which resulted in some well deserved goals.

POTM - Daisey for having lots of great shots at goal and she didn’t let her head drop when she missed. She kept pushing through and finally got her goal💪🏼

And that’s a wrap! ESF Festival of Football at Butlin's 2026 over and out…
Every single one of our girls has worked and played so hard, but a special mention to our superstar goalkeeper Maisie for winning the ‘Magic Moments’ award for an epic save in one of the matches 💪 absolutely well deserved! We are all so proud of her, long may it continue
