Divisions have been released for the new 26 / 27 Season!

It is with great sadness we share that Chris Avis has passed away after a lengthy illness of Alzheimer’s and cancer.

The funeral will be on Wednesday the 12th August at 12:45 at Seven Hills crematorium, Ipswich. Followed by the wake at Ipswich sports Club. If anyone wishes to attend and pay their respects you are welcome.

The family would appreciate a donation to Alzheimer’s research instead of any flowers.

It is with great sadness that I learned of Chris Avis’s passing.

I first met Chris at Capel St Mary Table Tennis Club when I was 14 years old, and enjoyed many wonderful years playing alongside him in the premier division, along with the late John Bishop. Chris also introduced me to my first job at his company, Hawthorn Contractors Ltd.

Chris was fiercely competitive in both sports and business—a born winner who excelled at everything he tried, from tennis and squash to table tennis and even tiddlywinks. During our annual 'County' tournament, with up to 100 entrants huddled over the tiddlywinks mats, Chris was always the man to beat, and as his teammate, I was often required to spend my lunch breaks practising in the conference room in preparation for the competition.

I will always remember Chris for his sharp mind, exemplary sportsmanship, and zest for life.

Chris will be sorely missed. My sincere condolences to all their family.
