Stop training for the holiday and start training for the life you actually want to live.
Most people get stuck on the "yo-yo" merry-go-round of extreme dieting just to look a certain way for a week away. But the real win isn't a number on a scale - it’s the strength to show up for your family.
The Lab by Tom Bisson
Not a typical gym. No noise. No mirrors. No ego. Science-led group coaching for people 40+ who want real, lasting strength. Based in Rocket Padel Ilford.
Strong isn’t a size. It’s a standard.
The court is where you feel it.
The gym is where you build it.
Padel needs more than quick hands and a decent shot. It’s rotation, change of direction, balance, strength, and being able to repeat all of it when you’re tired.
That’s the work.
Training doesn’t need to be a constant chase for sweat, heavy breathing, or the hardest session you can survive.
For most people, the better question is: what can you actually repeat tomorrow?
Walk. Add some weight. Put something heavy in a backpack. Keep it simple enough to do consistently, then build from there.
The sessions that move you forward aren’t always the ones that look the most intense. They’re the ones you can keep showing up for.
1% better doesn’t always look impressive on camera.
It’s showing up, adjusting the detail, one cleaner rep, recovering properly, then doing it again.
2am session.
Straight to the airport.
Tournament in Spain a few hours later.
Not a normal start time, but the session had a one job: get the athlete primed, prepped, and ready to compete.
Then the match footage came through later that day.
Tired? Very.
Worth it? Every time.
Not every session starts on the gym floor.
Sometimes it starts outside, early, moving properly, and starting the day with energy.
There’s a reason strength and conditioning matters in padel.
You’re changing direction, reaching, rotating, stopping, starting, and trying to stay sharp when your legs are already tired.
The gym work is there for moments like this.
This is what smart training looks like up close.
Not just picking exercises and working hard for the sake of it.
It’s watching how someone moves, knowing when to push, knowing when to adjust, and making the session fit the person doing the work.
That’s the difference good coaching makes.
The Lab didn’t start with perfect lighting and a fully kitted-out space.
It started with Tom coaching clients at a rugby club, building sessions around the people in front of him, and working out what The Lab could become one session at a time.
Then came the garage sessions.
Now it’s here, inside Rocket Padel, Ilford.
The space has changed, but the approach hasn’t: smart training, and sessions built around the person doing the work.
It is never too late to reinvent yourself.
Stories like these can feel extreme, but they prove one simple thing: your body is capable of amazing things at any age. None of these people started out as elite athletes - they just chose to try.
Starting a fitness journey can feel a bit scary, but you don't need to run ultra-marathons or break world records. You just have to take the first step for yourself.
Consider this a reminder to give yourself a bit of grace today.
You aren't late. You are right on time.
