This Sunday, the girls make the trip to Kinmel Bay to begin our 2026/27 campaign against Towyn FC.

After months of building this team, hard work, training and pre-season, it's finally time to step onto the pitch and represent Holyhead in our first competitive league game.

A young squad. A new journey. And a massive moment for everyone involved with the team.

FINAL PRE-SEASON TEST ⚽️

Holyhead Hotspur Women 1–3 CPD Bangor Women

Wednesday 19th August | The Oval

Wednesday evening saw us play our final pre-season fixture as we welcomed a very strong, organised and established Tier 2 Bangor side to The Oval.

The game got off to a flyer, with both teams going at it from the first whistle. We went into the game with a clear structure and game plan, and tactically our girls matched Bangor throughout the opening half, working incredibly hard to break down their attacks and limit their opportunities.
With only minutes remaining before the break, Bangor were gifted an opportunity and took advantage to go into half-time 1–0 ahead.

The second half started brilliantly from Holyhead. Our midfield three of Efa, Ebony and Amelia were outstanding, dominating possession for spells and allowing us to really take the game to Bangor.
As we pushed for an equaliser, the ball broke Bangor's way and they punished us to make it 2–0.

But this young Holyhead side refused to give in.
We pulled a goal back to make it 2–1, and suddenly we were right back in the game. Abi, Grace and Sophie all came close as we continued to push for what would have been a deserved equaliser.

Unfortunately, as we committed players forward, Bangor broke once more and scored their third to make the final score 3–1.

The result only tells a small part of the story.
For a squad made up predominantly of 17-year-old players, preparing for their first-ever season in senior women's football, to compete the way we did against an established Tier 2 side is something everyone involved should be incredibly proud of.

This pre-season was deliberately made difficult. We've faced some excellent opposition, including three Tier 2 sides, because we wanted our girls to be tested, challenged and prepared for what lies ahead.

We've learnt something from every single game.

We've shown character.
We've shown fight.
We've shown that we can compete.

Now we're ready.

Our first-ever season in Tier 3 women's football is ahead of us, and we can't wait to get started. 💙🤍

A fantastic test for our girls this evening against a strong Tier 2 Bangor side. Plenty of positives to take from the game as we continue preparing for our first league campaign in Tier 3.

This Wednesday we welcome CPD Bangor Women FC to The Oval as our pre-season preparations continue.

Another big test for our young squad as we come up against a tough Tier 2 side. These are exactly the challenges we want — testing ourselves against strong opposition, learning, improving and getting valuable minutes in the legs ahead of our first league campaign.

It’ll also be a special one as Holyhead Hotspur Women play at The Oval for the first time! 💙🤍
