THE WEEK IN FOCUS

Here we have, the last weeks worth of darts, both practice and competitive games.

Monday, I played the YDC Division 1 competition, hosted at Forest Cottage in Halifax.

I was, yet again, placed in a very competitive group. My first game didn't really go to plan. I was just outscored by my opponent and only had 1 dart at a double in what ended up being a comprehensive 3-0 defeat. Next up was the 3 time previous winner of this competition, Simon Crossland. A formidable opponent at the best of times, and although my scoring was much improved from my first game, a 73 average was comfortably enough for Simon to take the win 3-0. The third game came along, and I was much more focused. My scoring was ok, but I was managing shots at doubles. I took the win in this one, 3-1. In the final game I managed to take the win 3-2, in a very competitive match where both myself and my opponent manged to average almost 58.

all in all, 4 games played, 2 wins and 2 losses, not to be sniffed at in division 1 and as this is only the start of my journey I'm quite happy with the nights work. back to the practice board.

I must admit, I am finding the perfect balance of working and the ability to put in quality practice quite hard to get right, but I will keep working towards finding the right formula and I'm sure it will come together at some point.

onto Wednesday and the Halifax & District Darts League. This week saw the team, The Flying Pig, with an away fixture against table topping Volunteers Arms. The Arms, took the overall win 5-2 and I was on the end of a 3-0 loss, but I did put up a fight against the guy that won the singles knock out las t season, so some promising signs.

Onto this coming week, and an appearance at Forest Cottage on Monday night awaits me again, along with an away friendly fixture to Long Can Hall on Wednesday night for The Flying Pig.

My registration with the ADV Vaults has been put on hold for around 2 weeks due to work commitments for my dad, but once we're through that period, we will be ramping up the competitive play.

Thanks, as always to my sponsors:

LAST WEEK & THE WEEK AHEAD

After a quiet week recuperating last week, the only competitive darts action for me was the Halifax & District Darts League match for The Flying Pig, away to McCafferty's

A tricky encounter for the team this one, and I had to play my match early. Due to licensing laws for town centre pubs, I had to be clear of the premises for 9pm, or so I was told.

Anyway, I started the game at break neck speed, and quickly found myself 2-0 up. This was down to a combination of smart scoring and finishing form me, and missed doubles in the second leg from my opponent.

Then my game totally left me. I started not scoring, and missing doubles and before I knew it I was on the wrong end of a 3-2 loss. I only had myself to blame, but it is, what it is. Ultimately, this is a team game and one loss doesn't mean we lose the match and we managed to take the win 4-3, with us winning the last pairs game 3-2.

Onto this coming week, and we have a YDC Division 1 tournament at Forest Cottage on Monday evening. As per usual, the standard will be very competitive, but I will get a minimum of 4 really difficult games under my belt.

Wednesday evening will bring around another game for The Flying Pig, this time, away to top of the league, Volunteers Arms. This one will be really difficult for the entire team, as they're currently flying in the league.

This week marks the time when I will be registering for the ADC Vault series. This is another avenue for me to go down to play more competitive darts on a more regular basis.

SPONSORSHIP EXPLANATION – SRC ELECTRICS & CHAYDEN THOMPSON DARTS
SRC Electrics recently became the final sponsor to join me, Chayden Thompson Darts, for the current season. While their support includes a financial contribution, the value of their sponsorship goes far beyond monetary terms. It represents encouragement from the local community, a willingness to give back during challenging times for many businesses, and, most importantly, personal faith in my journey as a darts player.
You might be wondering, “What does a sponsorship contribution actually support?” The financial backing from SRC Electrics plays a crucial role in enabling my progression in the world of darts. Without sponsors like them, continuing on this path would simply not be possible. Their support helps cover essential expenses, including:
• Annual memberships for various darts governing bodies
• Tournament entry fees
• Darts equipment and accessories
• Travel expenses, including fuel to and from events
• Accommodation for multi-day tournaments
• And additional costs associated with competing professionally
Beyond the financial aspect, having a local sponsor brings even greater significance. SRC Electrics’ support is not only a vote of confidence in my abilities but also an opportunity for the community to engage and give back. Supporting a local business like SRC Electrics—whether through their services or by spreading the word—helps reinforce the partnership and keeps opportunities alive for both the player and the sponsor.
In short, sponsorship is more than money—it’s about trust, community, and shared success. I’m proud to have SRC Electrics backing me, and I encourage the people of Halifax to support a business that believes in local talent.

Where do I even begin with this weekend?

What an experience—and what an introduction to the JDC. Many of you probably saw my short post on Saturday night where I briefly summed up how day one went… or didn’t go. In all honesty, it came down to nerves. I tried everything to control them, but on the day, they got the better of me.

I was gutted with how I performed. Frustration kicked in, and like I sometimes do, I took it out on my personal chauffeur for the weekend—my dad. As always, he handled it perfectly. Arm around me, a few simple words: what’s done is done. Back to the hotel, back to the practice board, and come back Sunday ready to prove I belong on that stage.

Back at the hotel, after some food and a bit of downtime, I tried to reset on the practice board—but it just wasn’t clicking. The darts felt heavy, everything was dropping low, and it felt like hard work. That’s when my dad suggested I try his setup.

It was a big change from what I’m used to—but I gave it a go. A couple of hours later, things started to feel right. The weight difference didn’t bother me, but the big difference was the trebles—they were going in, and regularly. That was enough for me. Decision made: I’d go into Sunday with the new setup and see what happened.

Sunday morning came, and I felt good.

I had a bye in the first round, then faced Charlie Fairclough. A tight game, but I edged it 3–2, taking out a 106 finish along the way. That win settled me down—less nerves, more focus—and I wasn’t even thinking about the new darts anymore.

Next up, Theo Farmer in the last 64. He took the first leg, but from there I found my rhythm and came through 3–1, scoring well and finishing cleanly when it mattered.

Into the last 32, I faced Alfie Hill. Another close battle, but I got over the line again, 3–2, averaging close to 62 and hitting key doubles under pressure.

Suddenly, I’m in the last 16.

I was up against Kye Courtney—a previous event winner and a top player. The scoreline says I lost 3–2, but that only tells part of the story. At 2–1 up, I had six match darts… and couldn’t find the double. Kye punished me with a 16-darter in the decider.

That one hurt. But once the disappointment settled, I realised how big a step forward it was from Saturday. A performance to be proud of.

After a short break, it was straight into the final tournament of the weekend.

First round: Leo Rawding. I came flying out, 2–0 up and feeling great—but maybe I relaxed too much. Before I knew it, it was 2–2. In the deciding leg, Leo surged ahead and left double 10 while I was stuck back on 111.

It had to go—and it did.

Treble 20, single 19, double 16. Easily one of the best checkouts I’ve ever hit under pressure.

That took me through, but the next round saw me come up against Max Carter, who simply outscored me. I managed to take a leg, but lost 3–1 to a better player on the day.

By that point, I was exhausted. I probably underestimated just how demanding a full weekend like this would be.

Looking back, after the disappointment of Saturday, I’m really proud of how I bounced back. A strong run in Sunday’s first event—and honestly, with a bit more luck on the doubles, it could have gone even further.

This weekend has been a real eye-opener. It’s shown me the level of commitment needed—not just in practice, but in competing—and also just how much support and investment goes in from those around me.

Now it’s back to the practice board this week. I’ve got a match Wednesday for The Flying Pig in the Halifax Darts League, and we might look at a YDC event later in the week. Going forward, I’ll also be entering ADC Vault events to get more competitive experience under my belt.

One thing’s for sure—this weekend hasn’t put me off. If anything, it’s made me even more determined to improve.

That’s a wrap.

🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥GWAAN🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

First win in the bag, and the proverbial monkey off my shoulder.

Time to relax and get on the warm up boards ready for my last 64 match.

I could’ve had a much higher average, but missed doubles cost me again, but a win, is a win.

Well, where do we even start.

Firstly, whatever expectations I had for today, I was totally blown away by the standard in Ellesmere Port today. I mean, I was expecting a high standard, and I had pretty low expectations, but the standard was way above what I thought it would be.

TOURNAMENT NUMBER 1:

I started this with a bye in the first round, so I advanced to the second round by default. In the second round I played Connor King. I went 1-0 up by pinning double 3 and felt good. Missed doubles cost me in the second leg and I could’ve and should’ve gone 2-0 up, but didn’t. Leg 3 was really poor to say the least, only a 41 average in that leg and Connor took the leg to lead 2-1. The fourth leg was my best leg of the match, I averaged 74 in that leg and was waiting on 56 , but Connor also made it his best leg and averaged 83.5. That was that match over and a 3-1 loss.

TOURNAMENT NUMBER 2:

No hey this time round, and it was straight into first round action against Alfie Macdonald. I’m not going to Goni to to much depth on this match. As you can see from the pictures, very, very poor from me. For some reason I became incredibly nervous and I was shaking when on my doubles. I missed a goal of 39 darts at doubles over 2 legs as I didn’t get a dart at a double in the first leg. I just need to learn to control my nerves and practice more on my doubles.

We don’t stop though. As soon as we got back to the hotel, I was back on the board for an hour or so. I have to keep going, and I will. I take solace in the fact that it was my very first time playing on this stage and in front of so many people. I did hit a 180, which I’m happy with and I’m more than comfortable with the fact that I know I have to make this kind of venue and crowd my standard playing environment.

It will be interesting to see how much I have progressed from the below statistics in 6 months or so.

A small video below for my followers, there will be more of these to follow.

We move forward onto tomorrow’s events.
