FULL TIME | Grimsby United Originals 2–4 Discoveries Pelham

First game of the season today for Grimsby United Originals against Discoveries Pelham.

The boys came flying out of the blocks, pressing high and creating a chance to take the lead within the first minute. Unfortunately, we couldn’t take the opportunity, and that set the tone for much of the first half.

We created numerous chances, hit the post a couple of times, had one cleared off the line and went through on goal, but just couldn’t find that breakthrough. Against the run of play, the visitors took the lead to leave us behind at the break.

Pelham came out much better in the second half and extended their lead to 2–0 before we pulled one back from a corner. The keeper fumbled the ball and Bobby Fenty managed to bundle it over the line to get us back into the game.

Chasing the game, we were caught out as Pelham punished mistakes to score a third and then a fourth. We continued to push and got another goal from a dangerous corner, with the ball eventually ending up in the net as an own goal.

Frustrating not to come away with the three points, especially after the first-half performance, but there are plenty of positives to take. We created more chances today than we did in many games last season, and that is something we can build on.

🏆 PLAYER OF THE MATCH – HARRISON WAUMSLEY

A fantastic performance from Harrison today. Playing at right back, he was getting forward at every opportunity while also working tirelessly to get back and defend. He won virtually every duel he went into, barely gave the ball away all game and delivered some dangerous balls into the box.

A really strong all-round performance and thoroughly deserved recognition. 👏

We just need to stay positive when we go behind, be more clinical with the final ball and take our chances when they come.

Plenty to work on, but plenty to be positive about.

When it comes to finishing, he is simply unbelievable — it just comes naturally to him! Whether it’s an instinctive first-time finish or he’s clean through on goal, there’s never much doubt about where the ball is ending up… in the back of the net! 💥⚽️

And although his right foot is his strongest, his left isn’t far behind! Add to that his strength, ability in the air, unbelievable technical ability and a proper football brain, and you’ve got one seriously complete player. 🧠💪⚽️

He’s so versatile that you could put him at centre back to cover and he’d look like he’d played there his entire life! He can genuinely play anywhere on the pitch and always gives us everything.

This season, we’ve also made the decision to make him our VICE CAPTAIN 👑🫡 — because wherever he plays, he sets the standard and leads by example.

We’re expecting a BIG season from him, and there’s no doubt he’s going to be key to our success this year! 🚀🔥

💪🔥 INTRODUCING OUR STRIKER! 🔥💪

As strong as an ox and we doubt there’ll be many defenders this season who are ready for the challenge! When they’ve played against him, they’ll certainly know they’ve had a game! ⚔️🔥

He’s an absolute nuisance for defenders — powerful, physical and brilliant at driving with the ball , while also having the strength and ability to hold the ball up and bring others into play.

And it’s not just through the middle… 👀 He’s shown in recent weeks that he can do a brilliant job out on the wing too, giving us another option and making him a real handful wherever he plays.

We know once he gets that first goal and the confidence starts flowing, the goals will come naturally! 🥅⚽️🔥

And from corners… 👀🎯

He’s our biggest aerial threat, so we’re expecting to see a few towering headers finding the back of the net this season! 🦅💥🥅

👑🔥 INTRODUCING OUR NEW SIGNING! 🔥👑

A player who can operate anywhere across the front three — and although he’s a year younger than the rest of the boys, you really wouldn’t know it!

For his size, he is unbelievably strong and never shies away from getting stuck in. His ability to receive the ball and play with such confidence and composure shows just how much potential he has. 🧠⚽️

The way he takes the ball, shifts it and unleashes a shot with that wand of a left foot 🎯🚀 reminds us of Phil Foden — quick feet, great balance and that ability to create something out of nothing! 🪄

We can see plenty of goals coming his way this season 🥅🔥, but it’s not just his ability on the ball that has impressed us…

His work rate is unbelievable . He works for the team, presses, battles and never gives up on a ball.

A really exciting signing with bags of potential, and we’re looking forward to seeing Toby grow, develop and show everyone what he can do! 👀🔥

Strong with both feet 🦶⚽️ and blessed with the skills to leave defenders guessing — they genuinely don’t know which way he’s going to go! 🕺💨

With his low centre of gravity, quick feet and ability to change direction in an instant, he reminds us of Eden Hazard in his prime! 🔥👀

And when it comes to set pieces… 🎯🥅 he delivers a wicked corner into the box, constantly putting defenders under pressure.

From a young age, he’s had one of the best abilities in the area. Andy coached him when he was younger and he was simply unplayable — so we’re delighted to have him back and on board with the team!

He’s strong, direct and has a proper football brain . And honestly, I don’t think there’s many who can strike a ball like he can! 🚀🥅

Cutting in from the left, we can see plenty of goals coming his way this season . But it’s not just about attacking — his football intelligence means he can fill in all over the pitch and give us options wherever he’s needed.

This signing really adds another level to the team 🚀 and we’re looking forward to seeing him back to his best, playing with confidence and showing everyone what he can do.

His dribbling and footwork are unbelievable — equally comfortable on his left or right foot, making him extremely difficult to read and even harder to stop! 🔥👣

He’s so composed on the ball, always looking comfortable under pressure and able to carry the ball through midfield with confidence. 🎯🧠

He really is adding another dimension to our team this year, and we’re looking forward to seeing him settle in, gel with the boys and show everyone what he can do!

A true leader in the middle of the park who never shies away from a challenge! He covers plenty of ground, gets stuck in and is always ready for the battle. 🏃‍♂️💨

And if there’s one thing you’ll never struggle with… it’s hearing him! 😂📢 He doesn’t stop talking throughout the game — organising the team, demanding more from his teammates and, of course, having the occasional moan at the ref! 🗣️🟨

He can pick out a pass , controls the midfield and is now starting to add goals to his game . Hopefully he can carry that form straight into the new season!
