It is with great sadness that Greenock Cricket Club marks the passing of Brian Lang, Honorary Vice-President and a much-loved and respected member of the Club for many years.

Brian enjoyed an outstanding 1st XI career between 1960 and 1976, during which he amassed 4,606 runs and claimed 117 catches. He also had the honour of captaining the side during part of the 1970 season, and again in 1973 and 1974.

Brian’s connection with the Club never faded. He continued to take a keen interest in its fortunes and would regularly return to Glenpark whenever his health allowed.

Brian faced significant ill-health in his later years with remarkable courage and dignity. His warmth, character and good humour remained with him to the end.

He was, quite simply, one of life’s good people and his passing will be deeply felt by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Our thoughts and sincere condolences are with Lynn and all of Brian’s family and friends at this very difficult time.

Funeral arrangements will be shared with members when they are available.

Whether your child has never picked up a bat before or already loves sport, everyone is welcome!

🎥 A professional film crew will also be at the club as part of Greenock Cricket Club's British Gas Energy for Tomorrow grant and Crowdfunder campaign, capturing the fantastic work taking place in our junior section. Children taking part may appear in the promotional footage.

Bring trainers and plenty of enthusiasm, we'll provide everything else!

Our 1st XI will take on Dumfries in the WDCU Premiership 2 from noon. Be sure to stay for the afternoon and watch some live cricket.

We're delighted to see the Greenock Telegraph supporting our successful Energy for Tomorrow application.

Being selected by British Gas is a significant milestone for the club and gives us the opportunity to deliver a transformational £60,000 sustainability project that will improve the long-term future of Greenock Cricket Club and reduce our environmental impact.

The hard work starts now.

Over the coming months we'll be building our crowdfunding campaign and engaging with members, supporters, sponsors and the wider community to raise £20,000, which will be matched by British Gas with a further £40,000 of funding.

This is a huge opportunity for the club and one that will require a genuine collective effort from the entire Greenock Cricket Club community.
