What if your workout wasn't about burning calories?

What if it was about building capacity?

The capacity to lift.
To balance.
To bend.
To reach.
To rotate.
To stabilise.
To recover.
To keep moving when life gets busy.

That's the beauty of functional fitness.

Every movement has a purpose beyond the workout.

You're teaching your body to become better at moving more efficiently.

And honestly?

That's a goal worth training for.

Photos from Pilates Flow Gloucester Quedgeley & Kingsway's post 04/09/2026

We don't train just to look good in leggings.

We train so life feels easier.

So your back feels stronger when you're lifting.
Your legs feel capable when you're climbing stairs.
Your balance stays steady.
Your joints move freely.
Your core supports you.
And your body doesn't hold you back from doing the things you love.

Because fitness isn't just about the next holiday.

It's about the next 10, 20 or 30 years.

Build a body that isn't just strong today.

Build one that serves you for life.

Do I have to be flexible to do Pilates?

This is probably one of the questions I get asked the most...

Absolutely not! 😊

In fact, flexibility isn't the goal.

The lovely lady in this photo is Kirsty, also known as Bendy Kirsty. πŸ˜„

Kirsty is incredibly hypermobile and has years of experience as a gymnast. She can move into ranges that most of us could only dream of!

But here's the interesting part...

Her biggest challenge isn't becoming more flexible. It's building strength and stability to support all that movement.

I'm hypermobile too, but nowhere near Kirsty's level. Even so, I know how important it is to build support around the joints rather than simply chasing a bigger stretch.

At Pilates Flow, we focus on creating a body that is strong, stable and well-supported.

We've also had people join us who couldn't comfortably sit on the floor because their hamstrings and lower back were so tight. Fast forward a few months, and they're moving with much more ease and confidence.

Everyone starts their journey somewhere. πŸ’›

The lovely thing about Pilates is that we meet your body where it is today, not where you think it should be.

And here's the bonus...

When you build strength, control and stability, your mobility often improves naturally too.

So if you've ever thought...

"I'm far too stiff for Pilates."

Please don't let that stop you.

You don't come to Pilates because you're flexible.

You come to Pilates to help your body move better. πŸ’›

⭐ SEPTEMBER STUDENT HIGHLIGHT β€” HOLLY ⭐

----------------------------------------------------------------
It is time for our Pilates Flow Star to have her moment! πŸ˜„β
And honestly, at this point, Holly being our Pilates Flow Star is probably as well established as Carole being our Pilates Flow Queen! πŸ‘‘πŸ˜‚

The problem is… our Star is also incredibly humble, so I feel like it's my job to tell you a little bit more about just how lovely this human is.

Holly has a bit of a superpower.

She has this incredible ability to make other people feel comfortable, accepted and included. Her social skills are genuinely something else β€” in the most positive way possible! She can walk into a room, and make everyone feel better.

Add a brilliant sense of humour to the mix, and you can probably understand why we all love having Holly around.

--------------------------------------------------------------

I still remember Holly walking into one of my Kingsway classes for the first time.

She didn't tell me that she had done Pilates before… but then she performed a beautiful, perfectly controlled bridge, and I thought:

"Hang on a minute… I'm definitely not looking at a beginner here!" πŸ˜‚
It was another reminder of something I tell people all the time:

The body remembers.

It doesn't always matter how long ago you used to exercise, dance, play sport or practise Pilates. Sometimes the movement might feel a little rusty at first, but your body has an amazing ability to reconnect with things it has learned before.

====================================

Holly is also a genuinely caring person who always looks out for everyone around her.
BUT… before this starts sounding like a personality appreciation post β€” that is not actually why Holly is getting our September Student Highlight! πŸ˜‚

In August, during what felt like the hottest month since approximately the dinosaurs, Holly attended an absolutely incredible 15 Mat and Reformer Pilates classes!
FIFTEEN in just one holiday month!.

---------------------------------------------------------
And we could see the difference.
Not just in how she was moving, her strength and her confidence, but also in the progress we could actually discuss with the wonderful Em Stuart Injuries (we have data sharing agreement for those who agree to it ;-)

The anatomical and physical changes we discussed were genuinely fascinating, and both Em and I were incredibly inspired by what Holly had managed to achieve through consistency.

That's the thing.
There was no magic.
No crazy challenge.
Just someone showing up, moving their body and doing the work β€” consistently.

And the results followed. πŸ’ͺ
Holly, you are an absolute joy to have at Pilates Flow, and you have more than earned your place as our September 2026 Student Highlight. ⭐🀍

Thank you for bringing your humour, kindness, energy and commitment into our community.

Congratulations, Pilates Flow Star! πŸŒŸπŸ‘

IN HOLLY'S OWN WORDS...

What's one move that made you want to quietly disappear?

Scooters on the reformer!
Balance, movement and core all in one. Bjorn increases the intensity every time I start to feel comfortable with it!
I can see so much progress though and I dread it much less.

Reformer or mat?

It's like choosing between fish and chips or Batman or Robin, they are a perfect duo!
They complement each other very well.
My pilates has progressed so much since doing mat AND reformer.

Reformer is especially great for my hypermobility.

What does your body do now that it couldn't before?

I started pilates in 2019 when I supported a friend in undertaking her pilates exams. Refreshingly it was a form of exercise that I could do!
Due to life admin, my friend stopped teaching pilates and I missed it so much. I tried another couple of pilates groups but I didn't enjoy them nearly as much as my original group.

I joined Pilates Flow and found my people again!
I never thought I'd get back into the movements after such a long break.
Thankfully I still had the muscle memory and foundational knowledge, I just needed to build up my flexibility and strength again. A year in and I just wouldn't be without this community! I love the support and sharing of the journey.

Don't Just Get Fit

Don't just get fit.

Get capable.

Strong enough to carry.
Mobile enough to move freely.
Stable enough to feel confident.
Balanced enough to trust your body.
Resilient enough to keep going.

Because fitness isn't really about becoming the best-looking version of yourself.

It's about becoming the version of yourself who can say:

β€œYes, I can do that.”

That's the kind of fitness we believe in at Pilates Flow.

Fitness that makes your life bigger, not smaller.

Nobody tells you the truth about Reformer Pilates before your first class, so let me be the one to do it:

It looks like a chic little bed on wheels. It is, in fact, a torture device that has been given excellent branding.

You'll be gliding one minute, questioning your life choices the next, and somewhere in between you'll discover muscles in your inner thigh that have never once been consulted about anything, ever. The straps will humble you. The springs will humble you. Even the carriage will humble you, and it doesn't even have a personality.

And yet β€” 24 hours later, you're already checking the timetable for your next session, because apparently we're all just gluttons for elegant punishment. πŸ™ƒ

Welcome to the club. ;-)
