Analysis & Tactical Takeaways
Our team had 53.8% possession, completed 187 passes and created 20 attempts to the opponent’s 14. Danny Nicol scored once and assisted Mackenzie Noble twice, while Noble added two goals and Charlie Douglas scored the other. Defensively, though, the opponent scored four times from 14 attempts, with 78.6% of their shots also inside the area. The 56.6% of action on our side of the pitch suggests we spent significant time defending our half despite having more of the ball.
Review - A good first match for the boys with a valuable point in our first away match of the season. Game was preety evenly matched with both team creating excellent chances.

What a weekend for the boys. This was our second year at The Edinburgh Cup after winning the 3rd place final last year.
We were faced with a tricky group containing North Berwick FC from our SERFYA league.
Our fist game was against North Berwick which ended with a 3 -1 victory, We followed that up with a great win against Dundee United SC and then made it 3 out of 3 on Friday after beating St Andrews.
Saturday was a bit of a different story with a hard game against Shankill which ended in a 3 nil defeat. The boys needed something in the final game against Falkirk and they managed to battle to a nil nil draw.
Sunday saw us playing in the 2nd place final against Eastside Rapids at Ainslie Park.
Both team were looking to win the final but it was Gala who started off looking the team most likely to score. Eastside kept the ball but never really offered a threat and it was Gala who broke the deadlock with a lovely free kick form Aaron to out us 1 nil ahead. Eastside never gave up and eventually got an equaliser midway through the second half and the game ended up going to Pens.
Gala scored the first 4 and with the pressure mounting Eastside failed to convert the 5th kick. This gave our final penalty taker Archie the chance to win the game. Archie finished his penalty in style and celebrated by removing his top.
Massive thanks to everyone we played and all the organisers for another great experience. Hopefully be back next year to try and go one better.
The boys have been training hard over the last few weeks and are all looking forward to the 2026/27 Season getting underway. It looks like we will be playing in a 16 team SERYFA Division 1 2013s league.
Over the last few weeks we have played a few training matches and had some great training session although numbers have been low with boys enjoying some down time and holidays.
Last night we travelled up to Hibs Training Centre to face the HIbs 2014s, In some real windy conditions the boys put on a great performance. We only had 12 players but they all gave a great account of themselves and came away with a 2 - 0 victory on the night.
The boys are looking forward to a trip toThe Edinburgh International Cup on Friday 7th August and Sunday 8th August.
We are also on the lookout for some sponsors. If any businesses or individauls are interested in sponsoring some new training kit for the boys please get in touch via the page. Without support from local businesses running this team would be very difficult.
Spartans FC 2013s 5 Gala 4
Gala went into the last game of the season and the 4th game in 6 days. The boys got of to the best start with a breakaway goal finished superbly by Charlie. Spartans were playing some good football but it was Gala who got the second after a wonderful finish from Philip to loop it over the keeper head from 20 yards.
Gala in control at half time 2 -0.
Spartans started the 2nd half well and got one back with some good play down the left wing which resulted in a cross being converted at the back post. They got another back through an deflected cross that landed at the striker feet and he finished well from 6 yards. Gala kept battling and some great link up play by Leo allowed him to release Charlie for his second goal of the match. Charlie then completed his hattrick with another great finish to round of a great individual performance on the night. The game still had plenty goals left in it. Gala could have had the game wrapped up when Danny weaved some magic and turned the keeper inside out back failed to finish with his left foot, Spartans were hungry for the win to get of the bottom spot in the league and they got a break when Archie handled in the box and they were awarded a penalty 4 - 3. Spartans were on the front foot and got the equaliser with a good through ball behind the back 4 and a clinical finish made it 4 - 4. Spartans got the winner from a corner to make the final score 5 - 4 in a very entertaining match.
A tough end to the season for the boys but they have done great to finish 5th in a very competitive league and reach the last 16 in the Scottish Cup. Enjoy a few weeks off and we will see you all for pre season.
Currie - 2 v Gala Fairydean Rovers Academy 2013 - 1
Currie dominated the first half playing some entertaining football making it hard for Gala to get into the game. They took a deserved lead from a long range left foot effort that flew over the keepers head. Currie extended the lead from a long ball over the top of the Gala defence and a good finish from the Currie striker.
Currie 2 Gala 0
Gala started the second half on the front foot and started to give Currie a game. Gala with a change of formation started to play some better football. Alfie hit the bar with an effort that almost brought Gala back into the game. Gala were on the front foot and eventually got a gala back when Archie fired home from a corner. With 5 minutes left Gala threw everything into getting the equaliser. Currie held strong and held on for a deserved win on the night.
Gala face Spartans on Wednesday in the final game of the season with a win they would move into 3rd place.
