Bluebird day on top of the Ben after a fairly hard indicator wall. Ice is super dense, a little thin at the bottom.

Stob Corrie Nan lochan today. Easy routes buried. Harder routes good but cracks choked with ice. Teaching leading today. Summit buttress / boomerang arête mix today worked well. Big bum slide down broad gully.

A rightly popular hill in Glencoe, for a quick hit before the weather sets in . Winter Mountain training with Clyde Mountaineering club.

Into the Grey Corries with Blair today. The last time we climbed together it was the third ascent of Sorvegan on Skye, ten years ago. I'm getting older, he doesn't seem to be ! Cobra Corner felt very pokey for the grade, but again, probably an age thing !

Variable conditions on routes, with some (Talibalan), having completely choked icy cracks making it unprotectable, with more Easterly sections of the crag, having drier rock and better pro.

First few days or so out in Winter, particularly around the shortest day. My advice, a fairly short walk in, not too long, maybe go somewhere familiar-ish...
Mmmmm, yeah, right. New big remote crag, 4 hours-ish from car to bottom of route, etc..
But when you get the chance to play with legends such as Stu Macfarlane, and Di it has to be done.

Exploring new areas is one of the biggest joys of climbing. The unexpected twists and turns and the uncertainty of the outcome is what keeps us sharp. Already looking forward to taking the gear for another walk tomorrow.
