A FANTASTIC DAY FOR A FANTASTIC CAUSE
Today Grangemouth Golf Club welcomed an incredible 200 golfers for the Big Golf Day in aid of Prostate Cancer, organised by James Finnie.

It was a brilliant day from start to finish, with fantastic comments from visitors about the condition of the course and the welcome they received at the club.

The day also had a very special meaning, with the prizes presented by Gillian Bain, wife of the late John Bain, who sadly passed away from prostate cancer two years ago.

**FRIDAY GOLF DEBATE**

Is a four-hour round of golf too long?

Slow play is always a big talking point in golf, but what actually counts as too slow?

For some golfers, four hours is perfectly reasonable. For others, a round should be comfortably quicker.

Does it depend on the course, the format, how busy it is, who you’re playing with — or should four hours be the absolute maximum?

There are no right or wrong answers here. It’s simply down to the individual and how you like to enjoy your golf.

🏌️‍♂️ A GREAT DAY FOR GRANGEMOUTH JUNIOR GOLF 🏌️‍♀️

Grangemouth Juniors welcomed Alloa Juniors to the club this afternoon for our first Forth Valley Junior Golf League match of 2026 — and, even more significantly, Grangemouth Juniors’ first league match in many years.

On a hot and perfect afternoon for golf, both teams produced a closely fought match played in a fantastic spirit.

The sides were very evenly matched and it all came down to the final tie. With his teammates out on the course supporting him, Kyle McClelland secured the vital half point, giving Grangemouth a brilliant 3½–2½ victory.

It was particularly great to see the other junior players out supporting their teammates right to the very end — exactly the kind of team spirit we want to see within our growing junior section.

👏 A huge well done to all of our Grangemouth Juniors on a fantastic start to the league campaign.

We would also like to thank the Alloa Juniors, along with their parents and supporters, for making the trip over and for contributing to such an enjoyable afternoon of junior golf.

We wish Alloa all the very best for the remainder of their league fixtures.

🏌️ GOLF DEBATE: SHOULD CLUB COMPETITIONS HAVE A MAXIMUM HANDICAP OF 18? ⛳

An interesting debate has been raised by National Club Golfer: should golfers be limited to a maximum handicap of 18 when entering club competitions?

Under the current system, golf clubs can set their own Terms of Competition, including handicap limits for particular events.

Those in favour argue that an 18-handicap maximum could make competitions more competitive, reduce the possibility of very high Stableford scores and give golfers an incentive to work towards lowering their handicap.

Those against argue that handicaps exist precisely so golfers of different abilities can compete against each other, and that an 18 limit could exclude a significant number of ordinary club golfers from competitions.

So we thought we'd put the question to our members and followers:

Should there be a maximum handicap of 18 for club competitions?

YES – competition handicaps should be capped at 18

NO – everyone should be able to compete using their full handicap
