A great day on Lough Erne with Shelley Cowan and her friend Mary. We landed on Devenish island and went for a proper exploration of the monuments.

In what feels like very difficult time for outdoor education generally the week has begun with more difficult news. Calvert Devon and its 30 + year legacy of providing opportunities for people with a disability to participate in outdoor activities is to close at the end of the month.

In my work at Accessible Adventures Ireland CIC I sometimes come across adventurers who have the use of one arm. This could be for a variety of reasons. I wanted to create something bespoke that looked really good and had a bit of beauty in it.
I give you the “Curlew Paddle” the loom is steam bent ash strips laminated and the blade a mix of Ash and Cedar. This prototype model used the recycled clamp from a crutch, but Will in time be replaced in similar style to the paddle.

Do you want to come celebrate National Walking Day with us? We are currently gathering expressions of interest from women who would be interested in participating in a hike on Sunday 27th September. The route will be planned based on numbers of interested people but it is likely to take place in the Dublin/Wicklow area. Transport can be arranged if required.

Right to Risk.
A really important discussion. I’ve had a few conversations lately with people who have a disability and how society, amidst a pile of other discriminatory practices assumes that people can’t take decisions for themselves about risk.
It’s a wider topic in a society that is increasingly risk averse than merits discussion. Nice we video from The North Face challenging some of that thinking

𝙄𝙛 𝙮𝙤𝙪'𝙧𝙚 𝙥𝙖𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙤𝙪𝙩𝙙𝙤𝙤𝙧𝙨, 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙟𝙚𝙘𝙩 𝙞𝙨 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙮𝙤𝙪!

The Sperrins Youth Ambassador Project is an initiative focused on young people and the Sperrins Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). This program invites participants to explore the rich landscape of the Sperrins and all that it has to offer.
The goal is to empower young people from the surrounding areas by providing them with new outdoor skills, education, and opportunities, while highlighting the importance of this landscape to our well-being and the need to preserve it for future generations.

Over the course of 12 months, the project will feature 10 sessions. One of these sessions will be an overnight camping expedition.

Each session will focus on a different theme, including outdoor education, hill skills and navigation, water sports, agriculture, heritage, and environmental topics.
