More movement isn't always better.
The right movement, at the right intensity, with the right progression can help you build strength, control and confidence.
This is where exercise becomes more than just ticking a box.
It's training your body for the life you want to live.
Move with intention.

I still remember the excitement of buying my son's first pair of shoes. π₯Ή But alongside the excitement, I remember doing what I do best...Research (and lots of it - barefoot vs shoes etc). π I wanted to know everything!!
What type of shoe was best? How should it fit? How much room should there be? Should it be flexible? What should I be looking for as his feet developed?
And that first pair of shoes completely changed the way I looked at children's footwear (and mine!).
From that day onwards, I started paying attention to things I probably wouldn't have noticed before.
Not just the size.
But the shape of the shoe, width, space around the toes, how flexible it was.
And, most importantly, whether his foot could actually MOVE inside it.
Fast forward a few years and I'm still doing it.
And right now, with his feet growing and football boots on the shopping list, I'm once again looking at just how difficult it can be to find shoes that actually accommodate the natural shape of a foot.
And something else happened along the way...It completely changed the way I buy shoes for myself too. I still love a nice pair of shoes. I'm not going to pretend fashion doesn't matter (used to be a sucker for owning a lot of nice shoes!!) π But my priorities have changed.
Because as a physiotherapist & Pilates instructor, I've come to appreciate that our feet aren't simply something we put shoes on.
They're our foundation for movement, balance and stability.
And perhaps the biggest lesson I've taken from all of this is: Movement matters more than fashion.
Not "never wear fashionable shoes."
Not "everyone should go barefoot."
Just understand that your feet have a job to do, and the footwear you choose should allow them to do it.
So as we head into the season of new school shoes, trainers, work shoes and football boots...
Take a look at your (& your child's) feet before you look at the shoe. They will thank you!

Busy summer days don't mean you've fallen behind. (although it is absolutely OK if this has happened!)
Even ten minutes of movement keeps your body engaged and your routine alive. Walking along the beach shore is one of my favourite things to do when I am stuck!
Remember, consistency isn't measured in hours. It's measured in showing up.
So keep (or start) the habit, even if it's small. Your body will thank you.

π¨ "I didn't think I'd ever move without pain again." - My Friday testimonials happy ending! β¨
That's what one of my male clients told me before we started working together.
Months (honestly, years) of back pain. He'd stopped exercising completely, dreaded sitting through his workday, and felt like discomfort was just going to be his "new normal."
Fast forward to today - swipe to see what he had to say about his progress. ππ»
This is exactly why I do what I do.
Back pain doesn't have to be something you just "live with," and you don't need to give up your daily life to manage it. With the right combination of physiotherapy and Pilates, real, lasting change is possible - at any stage.
If this sounds like you (or someone you know), send me a DM.
Let's get you moving again. πͺ

Comment below and share what movements makes you feel your best. Mine? - well no secret - Pilates and Running :) - although I know that lifting weights have to get into my schedule as I get older. But for now.. this is my jam!

Last week, one of the highly requested questions was about bunions. It is a very common problem, one that is not only encountered by women, or those who wear narrow shoes, but of course these don't help.
I made up a few slides with some bits of information about Bunions with two simple exercises in the end. But follow for more as I will post a REEL next week about simple exercises you can do at home with me.
