You may have heard of ‘player profiling’, but we didn’t understand the extent of this until we began working with scouts.

Academies profile of their ideal player looks different depending on playing style, positional priorities, age-group needs and recruitment strategy. Some academy scouts also value different parts of the 4 corner model more than others. For example, we know Rangers place a huge emphasis on the social side of the game and being ‘coachable’.

The variance in profiling from club to club can make recruitment feel like a mystery to parents. How one player can be brought into an academy, but a seemingly similar player isn’t. It can be confusing and frustrating.

We are trying to support players and families by removing the ‘mystery’ of recruitment. Steven Thayne has worked in academy recruitment for years and understands the different profiles that exist across the country. We can give clear advice, using engaging visuals, to bring clarity to a players next steps.
