Helsinki final post…
GOLD for Barry Masson in 45s, winning a drama-filled final 11-9 in the 5th.
GOLD for Neil Stone-Wigg with a slightly more straightforward final match.
Graham Lind finished off with a win, as did Lewis doing well in the u15’s.

Good innovation from the Fins to hold both a Junior and Masters event same time; same venue. Great buzz about the place.
Graham Lind has found his group tough (he says he got the short straw!) losing two lung busting 3-2 games today. Pre-season training here and now!
Barry Masson has played all his group matches and won… into the final tomorrow.
Neil Stone-Wigg has played 4, won 4, so one more match tomorrow to hopefully secure gold.
The juniors are battling on, with Lewis Lind and Jamie Pearman unfortunate to both meet their respective 1st seeds and losing to them. All still have games going on with the Monrad system or the promise of a minimum 3 matches for all. Some tired bodies!

The Scots have had an “up and down” day overall on day-1 in Helsinki.
Barry Masson and Graham Lind are in two separate groups so were looking to win all those to secure an all Scottish final on Sunday. Barry is still on track in his group but Graham is in a tight group, losing one of his matches today but still in with a chance to get to the final.
Neil Stone-Wigg took care of the top 2 Finnish seeds keeping his weekend alive.
In the juniors Jamie Pearman won 3-0 to setup a quarter-final match against the top seed tomorrow.
Lewis Lind won his first round 3-0; Murray Lind lost to a higher seed 3-1; Struan Lind yet to play (seeded so got a bye). Donald Masson had the match of the day unfortunately losing 11-9 in the 5th to a strong Qatari.
Still a lot of squash to come this weekend! Team spirit is high.

All event dates and locations have been set for the season.

Please note that for the East of Scotland Masters we will be trialling a 1 day format and would appreciate any feedback after that event.

The Scottish Masters Squash competitions calendar is now complete with all venues confirmed. Mark your calendar! 📆

Ahead of the National Championships, we look forward to a fantastic regional circuit of five events, featuring four traditional weekend tournaments, with this season's third event taking place as a one-day, best-of-three competition in November, hosted by East of Scotland Squash & Racketball; a new initiative supported by the Scottish Squash Masters Working Group.

The Scottish Masters Selection Criteria for 2026-27 will be announced ahead of the first regional event. Good luck to all players in the coming season 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Gathered at Edinburgh airport are the Scottish representatives of the Finnish Junior Open AND the Finnish Masters Open 2026. Both events will be running concurrently at the same venue in Helsinki starting Friday 7-Aug.
We have Struan Lind and Donald Masson (u13); Lewis and Murray Lind (u15); and Jamie Pearman (u17) all flying the saltire in the Juniors.
And in the masters we’ve got Barry Masson and Graham Lind (o45); and Neil Stone-Wigg (o65).
Best of luck to all!
