This weekend we finally got our away day!

We came up against some tough teams, on both days. But what an experience still for the team!
Our last as a group Involving Caleb. Who scored 3 through both days.
A goal from super Charlie playing centre midfield, a bloody nose for our centre back and our No.7 finishing the tournament in the net and making a few good saves!

But this weekend was more than football, hopefully a weekend they’ll all never forget.
A bond more than just the badge on their shirt!

The weather was fantastic… maybe too hot. But who cares.

Spartans were away and they made the most of it.

Yesterday the Spartans went to watch the not so might Doncaster Rovers.

However it was a good opportunity for the majority of the team to get together and bond outside of playing football.

It was a great day apart from the result, plenty of laughs and smiles on all the kids faces, which at the end of the day, that’s what grass roots is all about! Making bonds and friendships that last.

Last Game Of The Season & A Change

We were here at last, seems to have been a prolonged season, due to postponements. But here we was, last game away at Hemsworth. Not a full side still, but the players who turned up were fantastic again

Hemsworth 2-2 Carcroft Spartans

We lost last week 2-0, but for dodgy goalposts and a mistake, that was not a reflection on the match at all.
This week I asked for the same intensity, same togetherness, work rate & enjoy themselves, plus 1 thing, but the ball in the net, within 10 minutes Caleb obliged, picking the ball up from well outside the box, 1 touch to control and a half volley, over the goalkeepers head and 1-0 to the guys, and well deserved also.

Minutes later, Matas got the same chance and another wonderfully struck goal put us 2 up.

Spartans gave as good as they got and matched Hemsworth really well today. We conceded a sloppy free kick, which led to a goal.

2-1 at the break. We came out second half with the same pressure, straight onto the opposition, some good passing from front to back and tremendous work rate.

We were unlucky to concede a equaliser, a shot squirming int the bottom corner, which I know Charlie knows he would save 9 times from 10.
A even last 15 minutes, a couple of chances for both teams, but in all a draw was a fair reflection. 2 hard working teams, trying to play proper football.

That was Caleb’s last league game for us, for 4 years he has led the line for me. Top goalscorer in most of them and has developed really well. A team player and a lovely all around lad! I hope everything works out for you buddy. Let’s go and have 1 final stab at it all in Filey!

Player of the Match: Matas 🏆- floorless the last 2 weeks, great engine and work rate is so good. Sticks to the task and now a goal, these will be more frequent I’m sure! Well done!

Parents Player : Junior 🏅, another over the last 2 weeks, has been brilliant, back at left back, playing to his strengths. Really good!

That’s all from us, we will wait on all fixtures been fulfilled, before we have our final league position, but a up and down season, has ended with some light at the end of the tunnel and a good base to kick on again next season.

Friendlies, bag packing, a sponsored walk and some tournaments now await the Spartans for the next 8/9 weeks.

Spartans 2-2 Hyde Park

After last weeks home drubbing to Hemsworth - less spoke about the better! 🤣

We played our last home game of the season today.
Improved performance and attitude was what was asked of the team today.
They replied with a decent performance from start to 59 minutes 🤣
Some good play between the midfield and attack got us in behind the lines but some final decision making and saves from The Hyde park goalkeeper kept us at bay.
We then conceded a goal which I’m sure Charlie believes he could have done better with, but the team went back up the other end and scored the equaliser. The Hyde park goalkeeper unlucky with his handling and the ball went over the line.
1-1 at the break.

2nd half started end to end, saves from both goalkeepers and missed chances, until a long ball from Charlie and a flick on from Harry resulted in a half volley lobbed goal from outside the box for Caleb - fantastic finish.
We could have got another to make it safe but some more good saves by The Hyde Park keeper.
Hyde park looked dangerous on the counter and some good passing moves. Then finally their left hand sided attacker, got inside our full back and across the back line and unleashed a shot which Charlie had no chance with.
The referee blew his whistle before we had chance to kick off.

A even match on reflection, disapointing to concede the last minute equaliser.

Player of the Match - Caleb 🏅 2 goals, great all around performance.

Parents Player - Matas - played through a slight injury to cause trouble on the right, unlucky not to get a goal.

2 games left away from home. Then Our attentions turn to Filey tournament in May.

February - 2 Games, 2 Defeats ⚽️🥈

Evening Everyone, quite a quiet period currently due to the weather. But we had managed to play at the beginning of February against league leaders Bentley and then today against title Challenging Hemsworth.

I look back and believe if the team had been more confident in their play and played to thier best ability we could have got some thing out of both games.

Bentley the first half was fantastic and then the second half we dropped back and invited pressure for the half. Conceding twice, in the end deserving the defeat.

Player of the match went to Lewis. Fantastic and strong as always.

Parents player went to Jake. Strong in the middle as always

Today against a strong and well organised Hemsworth side we conceded early but managed to get ourselves back in the game. Then conceding a goal from a corner.

Missed chances at either end, good saves by Charlie for us and some missed chances in the attacking 3rd by us meant the score stayed at 2-1 as was the same at half time.

Player of the match - Ethan played full game for the first time this season and was rather solid in a game of mistakes.
Parents Plaer - Caleb run his socks off, dropped back when needed and won the penalty for his goal.

We now have a run to end the season over the next 4 weekends. Hopefully keeping the team going will result in some more consistent performances
