🟣⚪️ Polbeth United 2-1 Cumbernauld Unathletico ⚪️🟣

Defeat for Cumbernauld.

On Sunday we travelled to Polbeth for our first competitive match on a grass pitch.

Cumbernauld kicked off and we struggled to find our grove. Polbeth took an early lead after there striker turned on the ball in the box and found the bottom corner of the goal, 1-0 Polbeth United.

Cumbernauld got the game level around 5 minutes later after a cross pass to Graham Gardner set him down the wing to cut the ball back to Alex Murray to fire the ball into the top corner. 1-1.

However Polbeth retook the lead from a corner a couple of minutes later after a couple of deflections found the ball in the Cumbernauld net. 2-1 Polbeth. The game was very much back and forth from then on till half time, with Polbeth nearly finding a 3rd goal if not for a triple goal line clearance from Jordan Walker. Ive not seen something move about that quick on the ground since I last dropped a goldfish out my hands onto the floor!

Cumbernauld found their passing game much better in the second half, however chances were rare for both sides. Polbeth managed to hold on till the final whistle to take the 3 points.

Cumbernauld man of the match and refs man of the match was Jordan McLachlan playing through the pain and had an excellent performance between the sticks 👏.

🔴⚪ Cumbernauld Unathletico 5–1 Helensburgh FFIT ⚪️🔴

A brilliant start to the season!

Cumbernauld Unathletico began the season against familiar opponents Helensburgh FFIT on a wet Sunday morning, with both sides exchanging chances and battling for control in the early stages.

Cumbernauld opened the scoring midway through the first half. A quick corner from Jonny Taylor found Lee Murray in space on the edge of the box. Lee took a touch before smashing the ball into the near corner to make it 1–0 Cumbernauld.

Just five minutes later, Cumbernauld doubled their advantage. A through ball sent Cameron Ross racing towards goal, beating the keeper to the ball, unfortunately for them the Helensburgh keeper brought him down. Up stepped Cumbernauld’s Mr Composed, Cameron Ross, who calmly sent the keeper the wrong way from the spot to make it 2–0.

Helensburgh pulled one back five minutes later after their forward won a free kick with a fall that wouldn’t have looked out of place in an Olympic swimming pool! A mix-up from the resulting cross saw the ball bounce off David Fotheringham and into the Cumbernauld net to make it 2–1.

Cumbernauld restored their two-goal advantage eight minutes later. A precise long pass from David Fotheringham found Graham Gardner in space, and Graham produced a fantastic finish, lobbing the ball over the keeper to make it 3–1.

Half Time: Cumbernauld Unathletico 3–1 Helensburgh FFIT

Cumbernauld started the second half looking for a fourth and found it on the hour mark.

Cameron Ross played a perfectly weighted through ball to Jony Taylor, who raced through on goal before calmly placing his finish into the far corner to make it 4–1.

With around 10 minutes remaining, and after chances at both ends, Cumbernauld found their fifth.

A cross from Lee Murray found David Fotheringham at the back post. His first effort was saved, but the ball bounced straight back to him and David made no mistake with the second attempt, rattling the ball past the Helensburgh keeper to complete the scoring.
