Jacquiehodgsonpt Helping midlife women navigate strength training.

Doing the workouts is one thing.

Making sure they’re actually moving you forward is another.

If you’ve been strength training at home for a while but don’t feel as though much is changing, have a swipe through these before you decide you need a completely new plan. 👉

Repeating the same exercises for a while will give you the chance to improve them and improve you!

Those last few reps should require some effort.

If you finish knowing you could easily have done quite a few more, it might be time for a little more challenge.

Add a few more reps.

A little more weight.

Look at how you are controlling the exercise.

Greater range of movement across the exercise.

Slow things down enough to stay in control.

Good reps first. More reps next.

Your strength sessions are only part of the picture.

Recovery and good nutrition is vital too.

🥸 Not sure what to change next?

I’ve made a simple Strength Progress Check to help you look at what you’re already doing at home and decide where you could progress.

Comment CHECK and I’ll send it to you 😅

Please tell me I’m not the only one who occasionally gets up and wonders when my body became quite so reluctant to join me. 😁

That stiffness after sitting for a while is something I’ve definitely noticed more as I’ve got older.

And menopause can be part of the picture too.

Changes around this time of life can affect our joints and muscles, and plenty of women notice more aches and stiffness than they used to.

For me, one of the worst things I can do is stay in the same position for too long.

So I move.

Not necessarily a workout.

Sometimes it’s simply getting up regularly, walking around, doing a few gentle movements or getting outside.

And this is another reason I value strength training in midlife.

Keeping the muscles around our joints strong, maintaining our range of movement and continuing to ask our bodies to move in different ways all matter as we get older.

I don’t expect to leap off the sofa feeling 25.

But I also don’t accept that feeling increasingly stiff and uncomfortable is something we should simply shrug at because we’re in menopause or getting older.

Movement usually makes my body feel better.

Sitting still for hours generally doesn’t.

Tomorrow we actually get started.

I’m excited and really looking forward to working with the women who’ve already joined.
