Crieff over 35’s

A new match report can only mean one thing…..We may have managed to avoid defeat!

With 3 league games remaining and the Crieff outfit sitting in mid table position, it was time for the final Away game of the league campaign. Away games inevitably mean taking a maximum squad size of 12 for the fixture. This week was no different. So with the acceptance of having to get stuck in for the full 90 minutes the team got on with it and started the game of with positive intentions.
The league table showed that fellow mid table outfit, Riverside, do a very good job of conceding goals, so with that in mind the line up went with 3 up top and the plan to put pressure on the Riverside back line. That approach started well with the home teams' defence creating some good opportunities for the Crieff side to test the goal. There was some nice attacking play and pressure applied from the attacking line of Dawson, Scotty and Glenn. With Scotty leading the line, the message was clear…focus on more goals and minimise cards from the ref…. Mission Failed!

The tenacious Dawson back in the lineup for another appearance was a bonus for the Crieff side, as his work rate and pressing created numerous chances. He managed to convert early in the first half with the away team taking an early lead.

The back four had a solid base with the ever cheerful Sinky in at RB encouraging his team mates at every opportunity. Paul and Craggy with a solid CB partnership and new addition to the squad, Mason in at LB. We welcome him to the squad with his peculiar accent, boosting the foreign contingent in the ranks. There must have been a slight language barrier to begin with as he produced a great save at the edge of the box, gifting Riverside with a dangerous free kick and collecting an early yellow. Once we cleared things up that he was only able to use his feet, he went on to have a solid debut and played very well.

We welcomed Bryn back in to the line up after injury, taking up the no. 10 position with an exquisite first touch we knew he had ability to create some opportunities. Unfortunately his second and third touches were more like rusty nails.

We reached half time 1-0 up and in control of the game. A familiar position for half time and usually where things begin to go wrong. The whistler had been dishing out yellow cards to the away side, like creeps at the park dish out sweeties. So the half time suggestion was to shut up and get on with it. Message received by the cheerful Sinky, who wasted no time in collecting an early yellow for dissent.

A standard solid first half performance from Craggy was followed up with his customary conceding of a penalty. Somewhat a surprise as many handballs up until then had been permitted.

With plenty of penalty practice in recent weeks, it was time for Sammy to step up and make an outstanding save from the pen. The shot stopper committed to the dive and stopped the ball finding the bottom corner. He then went on to make another outstanding save for the cameras, when the defence got caught out, and at full stretch he saved another shot from finding the bottom corner. In a pleasant surprise his distribution also seemed to find some of his intended targets too. With some direct play putting Scotty through on goals several times. He would go on to earn the POTM status. We promised not to mention the humiliating moment a gentle back pass drifted clean under his foot and millimetres outside the post. So we won't mention that! Another week avoiding a custodial sentence, is a bonus for the Crieff side to enjoy!

Father Glenn battled hard on the left of the pitch and even got involved in a confrontation that the good Lord would have raised any eyebrow at. A battling performance after a broken tibia and period out.

A solid defensive midfield performance from Brian Fiddle who made numerous vital interceptions and started many passages of play from his central position. Even when he had to be reminded from Dawson "You're for 40 years old, don't behave like that". He responded with a teary "I'm 43 Daws 😞 "

Bryn managed to finish off the game. After taking up many good positions and missing some great chances, the Riverside outfit took sympathy and allowed him the opportunity to score into an empty goal. A deserved outcome for his effort level in the game.

We saw the game out and with some guidance and encouragement from Aloysius at the side. He steered us through the final stages of the game to see us collect the three points and secure a rare clear sheet.

Thanks to Riverside for the game and special thanks to the ref for all the bookings we collected. There was a chorus of laughs towards the end of the game as the decision making had reached a new level of baffling.

The team executive chauffeur then took us on a trip round the local area. When we arrived at the local chippy, the Riverside striker fell out of Craggy's pocket as it appeared he was still marking him even after the game! Dawson then requested if the staff had "any spare chips available".
We rounded of the night with trip to a local boozer for a celebratory pint, and a bottle of milk for baby Daws (pictured in comments)!

On to the penultimate home game of the league campaign, where we are chasing a third place finish, and will require a big win to keep those hopes alive. We welcome the support at Strathearn campus for a 7pm kick off on September 11th.

The moment nobody has been waiting for….the return of match reports. Much like the match day squad numbers, the team journalist has not been showing up very often. After 3 successive games with a squad of 11 players, the match report was deemed too risky, as many of the comments are far from flattering, and we couldn't risk any players taking the huff.
However the squad for match day 11 the squad numbers up at 20 we could start the match report early this week.

A home game for the Crieff side would see us welcome Dollar Glen to our cauldron of footballing masterclass. With 1 win each in previous encounters, a close game was expected with a valuable 3 points for each team, sitting beside each other in the mid table position.

We offer a warm welcome to the ranks for a couple of new high profile signings; Mikey Boyle and Scott Newlands. Both prolific strikers and well known around the area. Strong additions to the attacking line…. Or are they!?

There was also a return to the side for the infamous Aaron Dawson. With an early morning matchday text, the sense of excitement was palpable. Apparently he'd been out the backdoor slide tackling the weans in preparation for his debut. The tenacious midfielder slotted in well and began catching up on his foul tally for the season.

Toothless Jim Leighton (aka Sammy) would be back in sticks, despite our goals conceded ratio there's a general confidence in his ability to save the ball. Unfortunately this week he had his boots on the wrong feet and kicking distribution was more likely to end up in the coo field.

On to the actual game then. Well the first half was fast paced and end to end. Both teams looking to press high and create chances. Neither team managing to dominate the possession. Dollar managed to create a chance and take the lead early on in the game. Converted well and 1-0 Dollar. Dinky then found himself slid through on goal with an opportunity to score. After his impressive performances and goal scoring in recent weeks, the sideline was braced for the net to bulge…… We had to continue waiting as his trundling effort caused little threat.

It wasn't long before our police academy graduate Jamie cropped up in the unfamiliar right wing position, showed some composure to pick out the ever running Dawson who dispatched a first time finish, nicely past the Dollar GK.

It wasn't long before the Dollar midfield put in a series of shuttle runs…..towards the ref pleading for some fouls and cards to be dished out. Having no joy with that approach they resulted to a few firm challenges. The midfield general Callum, who has been hugely impressive in his first two appearances, took exception to a particular straight legged challenge. A surprising glimpse of some hot headed emotion, would see an unusual peace maker in Fidz, step in to calm things down.

Half time soon followed and a series of changes ensued, taking advantage of large squad numbers and the luxury of being able to make substitutions. Off came Mikey, after some tireless work it was clear he was still working out who his new team mates were, his pass completion percentage looking strong for passes to opponents. Nevertheless we could see it is clear he'll make a huge impact. With regular start striker Peter Reilly missing, out for a Lamb shank apparently. It was the chance to introduce Scott Newlands to the front line. More on his contribution shortly.

Our wait for Dinky to continue his goal scoring record was over. Up he cropped after a nice passage of play with Scotty finding his strike partner in space. A much more familiar finish, the Crieff side took the lead 2-1. Dollar however, still carried a continuous threat and the Crieff side relied heavily on the solid defensive work from Roddy, Garry and Paul at the back. The opponents limited to half chances and not really troubling the already troubled Sammy in sticks. A commanding display at the back by Roddy, powered by half time pain relief for a tight arse, has given the Crieff side a boost in defensive confidence recently.

Still upset by the earlier moment in the match, the impressive Callum in midfield called the ref a bad name and was given his marching orders. A spanner in the works for the squad rotation and formation. Down to 10 men at a crucial stage, as the ref wasn't falling for any of his nonsense about him talking about the opposition.

A shuffle in formation and introduction of re enforcements would see the back line strengthen with Craggy's return from playing with princess's in Orlando, followed by the elusive Crieff's Cafu who appeared to have been lost down some pipework jobs over the previous month.

Scotty Newlands worked tirelessly as the lone striker and got his reward, firing a penalty into the top corner after an unnamed teammate produced a lovely dive in the box to win the spot kick.

Down to 10 men and 3-1 up. 20 minutes left to play… Could the Crieff side hold on…. The man Newlands on debut continued to spend much of his time in the offside position. However, the ref in disbelief that he was offside again, allowed play to continue on one occasion, Scotty through 1 on 1 with the keeper. The game should have been put to bed, but an embarrassing moment for the striker as his step over and attempted chip of keeper, failed miserably.

Instead the visitors managed to get back in to the game and score from a cross/shot. From the sidelines it looked like a cross but the celebration suggested an intentional shot.

In an effort to freshen up the tired Crieff defensive line, the sub bench was called upon. However, centre back Roddy refused to leave the field. A humiliating moment for the coaching staff on the sidelines. Although glad to see the Jan Mjalby lookalike see out the game.

Finding the final few moments of the game tense, it was all too much for the debutant Newlands, who, showing a hint of small man syndrome barked at the ref. The whistler branding another red card for the insult. Scotty even fancied another nibble and may have asked for another red, ensuring his red card tally would be higher than his goal scoring tally. An interesting debut, but vital in securing the 3 points.

Final score Crieff 3 - 2 Dollar. Thanks for the game lads, all the best for the remainder of the season.

Next up is new league leaders St Andrews at home on 14th August. We'll be hoping for a return of the Crieff Ultras for the game too.

Match report Crieff Vs Condorrat

Match day 5 for the campaign would see Crieff welcome Condorrrat to the Strathearn cauldron. The Cumbernauld based team making the 50 minute journey to enjoy a glorious evening of soccer in the sun!

A few new signings meant the Crieff side enjoyed a new look squad with 5 players making their first start for the team.

A late code brown 💩 call off from leading goal scorer and talisman Peter Reilly would cause concern for where the goals might come from.
The line up started with Sinky and Dinky on the wings. After some misplaced deep heat application, the attacking line up also included Brian ‘winky’ Fiddle.
With Reilly glued to the pan it was down to the deadly Sinky, Dinky and Winky combination to cause the problems for the opposition.

New GK signing Sammy whipped out his two front teeth, stowed them safely in his left shoe and swaggered out beytwen the sticks, with no intention of conceding any goals in his debut!

Up top the team welcomed new signing Xander to the line up. Re united with his teucher mate Sammy we didn’t have clue what they were on about with the language barrier. But they seemed to enjoy the nearby sheep supporting from the fields.

Similar to the previous games the Crieff side started well, dominated the possession and controlled the game. It wasn’t long before the chances were falling to the strikers in the box. Gareth finding that 2.5 yards wasn’t quite his range and cleverly avoided hitting the target.

A change to the formation would see Dinky move up top and Gareth revert to the wing. A change that worked well as minutes later link up play helped Xander find the back of the net. We’ll continue to try and avoid giving anyone too much credit in these reports. 1-0 Crieff.

It wasn’t long before the next goal followed with Dinky being played through 1 on 1 to calmly slot the ball home. 2-0 Crieff.

The home team had welcomed Crieff’s Cafu back to an outfield line up. Inspired by his oversized gloves from his GK stint, Campbell went on to set more records for largest attributes… longest throw in, giving new meaning to box to box as he launched several throw ins deep into opposition territory. Longest kicker of the ball and longest slide tackle also ticked off in this game. We also enjoyed longest mazy run, like a graceful gazelle weaving his way from the back line all the way to the Condorrat penalty box, where the ball trundled away without him, giving a goal kick to the visitors. Back in the changing rooms he even produced a 2XL tin of deodorant! In doing so amazing the goalkeeping teuchter who was unfamiliar with such a thing!

Anyway back to the dazzling delights of the fixture. A scuff off an ear and a flick of a heel would see the ball find its way through to Dinky again, finding his second of the game. A wonderful debut. 3.0 Crieff.

Half Time - surely 3 goals up and we can’t give it away again this week…..
Previous team talks having the opposite effect, we chose to just have a quick hydration refill and head back out to ‘not f**k it up.’

Fortunately the chances continued to come and Crieff looked to build on their lead. A
much healthier bench would see fresh legs on to the pitch early, with Dougie making debut on the left wing.

It wasn’t long before Xander found his second of the game after another good move and high pressing against the Condorrat periods of possession. 4-0 Crieff

Now In danger that either striker was about to score a hattick on debut, it was time to whip them both off. Joking of course. Dinky has on an electronic tag and had a curfew to get home for.

On comes Bryn, a veteran from the 8th tier of French football. Contributing well with a back heel flick showing off a bit of that French flair. Va va voom indeed.
Diego also on, donning a pair of size 7 child’s football boots he’d nicked.

A inspired move by the usually hopeless kitman, as Winky Fiddle moved up top and slotted home the 5th goal within seconds of the change. 5-0 Crieff

The game continued to offer chances and good periods of play. The Condorrat team continued their attempts to play football on the deck and had some threatening moments.
Although no match for the back 4 of Campbell, Roddy, Paul and Sammy who were a solid defensive set up for the Crieff side.
Our best defensive display of the season and much welcomed, well deserved clean sheet. A joint MOTM performance from Roddy and Dinky. Great additions to help get our season back on track.

Niall Cassidy also with a solid performance and welcome return to the centre of the pitch. Controlling things well, breaking up play, communicating with all around him and covering a lot of hard yards.

In a league where the results are showing all teams are capable of taking points of each other, there is all to play for as we move on to our next home fixture against Winchburgh on 8th May. A previous result against them we are keen to over turn.

Match Day 5 - Crieff vs Condorrat

Scorching sun ☀️ and great football, what more could you ask for on a Friday night?

So get down to Strathearn Community Campus for a 19:45 KO and cheer the team on!

Match day 4 would see the Crieff side travel to Stirling to take on Riverside. With the squad light on numbers and heavy on injuries there was only cautious optimism for a good result. The treatment room at Klav’s recommended Thai massage parlour, forming a bigger queue then a Glaswegian pharmacy on a Monday morning. IYKYK

However light in numbers, a strong starting 11 with a couple of new additions to the squad was a welcome sight. Welcoming Billy Carle to the Crieff side after many years as an opponent, and trying to score against old Vale teams. Some say, seeing him join Reilly up top was like the first time sweet popcorn went in the same bag as salty popcorn. A winning combination destined to be!
That proved to be the case right from the start as the popcorn partners proved a handful for the Riverside defence.
The Crieff outfit started the game well and were on the front foot early. Within 15 minutes Ross Brock played a direct ball to Mr Salty, Peter Reilly. He controlled the ball well out on the right sideline, cut inside and ghosted past several Riverside defenders with ease, calmly passing the ball into the bottom corner.Riverside 0-1 Crieff.

Chances being created at both ends for the next period of play. With the back 3 of Beck, Brock, and Roberts soaking up any pressure. The moaning from Riverside no.10 being more of a challenge to deal with, than anything with the ball. Frustration that would see the Crieff side pick up 3 yellows in quick succession.

With 3 experienced GKs signed it was a surprise to have none of them available this week. Fear not said Crieff’s Cafu as he slipped on some borrowed gloves and slotted himself between the sticks! Campbell a commanding and reassuring replacement as he made a series of solid saves! (Pictured in comments).

Back on the attack the Crieff side went. Proving too much to handle as Riverside conceded a free kick outside the edge of their box. Up steps Reilly, with a precision strike over the wall and into the top corner. No chance for the GK once again. Riverside 0-2 Crieff

Half time arrived with a degree of familiarity for the Crieff side. In control of game and with a strong lead. Much like the previous game, the message was the same, the next goal is the most important, stay strong at the start of the half with no easy chances. Much like the previous game the second half started in similar fashion with Crieff conceding a goal after 4 mins. Riverside 1-2 Crieff. A slight improvement on the previous game conceding 2 goals by this stage of the second half.
It would be fair to say the coach should stick to filling the water bottles and carrying the kit bag, rather than delivering any coaching advice at half time.

The momentum had shifted in Riverside’s favour for the second half, buoyed with the early goal, they also had a selection of 7 pairs of fresh legs to refresh their team. Chaos at the back saw the most bizarre goal line scramble, with headers resembling the ping pong doon the arcades. A blue on blue incident in the box would see Beck and Dewar collide in the box. Leaving Dewar with a set of lips that Katy Price would be proud of fae the aesthetics shop round the high street. Crieff struggled with energy levels and injuries and soon found themselves conceding a penalty. 2-2

Running out of steam and out of options on the bench the Crieff side pushed to get back in to the game , but spent large parts out of possession and making mistakes.
A tireless effort in midfield by Fidz would see him keep the boot in for 90 minutes (pictured in comments).

Chasing the game it was a blow when a high ball got lost in the floodlights above Beck and fell to the strikers feet to slot home and take a 3-2 lead to Riverside. Another goal quickly followed as the game was put to bed, 4-2.
The final 5-10 minutes would see Crieff persevere to create a few half chances.

Final score Riverside 4 - 2 Crieff

A couple of weeks R&R now, as we need to get out and perform better in the second half of our next match, with hopefully a stronger squad available.

IT’S MATCH DAY!

The team travel to Stirling tonight for what looks to be a tough match against a Riverside team currently on a 2 match winning streak.

With a small but strong squad Crieff will be looking to put the disappointment of their last league result firmly behind them after a good performance in a closed doors bounce game last week.

*Match Report Crieff vs St Andrews*

Match day 3 welcomed top of the table St Andrews to the Strathearn Campus this week. Likely to be a challenging opponent for the Crieff outfit.
Hopes and expectations were high for Crieff, on the back of their convincing win last time out. The mood in the changing room was positive with the dancing painter fiddle dropping the pre match beats nicely.

As the warm up started with wind picked up and down pi**ed the rain. Awful conditions and not what the players had signed up for when joining a summer league.

Anyway off we go…. Crieff making a positive start to the game and within a few minutes finding themselves 1-0 up. After arriving late and not managing to find shorts for his miniature legs, Gareth at least arrived on time in the box, converting from close range. Assisted by Garry Brock.

Minutes later and the dancing painter plucked the ball out of the storm with wonderful control and turn. The season’s best assist provided by Reilly. A fine move finished convincingly by Revie. That was quickly followed by another glorious passage of play with one touch flicks, passes and back heels. Unfortunate to not end in a goal.

The home side cheered on by the Crieff Ultras. Brining amazing support from the drum and megaphone combination. A real highlight of the evening. Also commented on by the away team appreciating the young team Ultras. The weather was s**t but the mood was buoyant round the campus. Pyros and Tifo is on for the next game 💪

The momentum soon changed as the home side encouraged the visitors to enjoy some easy chances.
Crieff’s Cafu, who only just made kick off after a call out to a fire rescue 🧑‍🚒, made a series of uncharacteristic howlers. Seemingly still covered In grease from sliding down his fireman’s pole, scuffed a few passes and tackles. Not long before the visitors found the net after taking one of their gifts. Head up sir, as once those mistakes passed he settled back to his solid contribution we’ve become accustomed to

A few solid 1-1 saves from chivvy in sticks kept the score 2-1 until half time. A solid start from Crieff.

The half time message was simple… the next goal is important. Get it and we’ll be hard to beat from there. Don’t concede any easy chances from mistakes. Message received 🫡
The second half kicks off and within 120 seconds a comedy of errors and St Andrews are now 3-2 up…. Geesy fuc+*n peeps man!

St Andrews continued to grow into the game and frustrated the Crieff side. They defend well and caused a threat when they had possession.

It wasn’t long before the creeks started to show as the new season was catching up with the aged bodies. A sore ankle injury for Cassidy resulted in looking to the bench for a replacement. Limited options this week meant the kitman was wheeled on to the field. The chance of a comeback diminished now surely!

The defence managing some injuries, now had to get to full time. Ross Block complaining of a sore back, perhaps from carrying his defencive partners.
Garry Brock lasting his first full 90 minutes in a while. Up until now his game time had been much like his bedroom performance… limited to a few minutes cameo!

The home side pushed on to find a way back in to the game. But instead went 4-2 down. Perseverance paid off as the St Andrews defence couldn’t cope with the dancing painters moves in the box. Penalty. The kitman trundling the ball over the line, fortunate the the strong wing blew the keeper the wrong way.

4-3 comeback is on, a point would be a fair result based on each side’s contribution…. Instead another gift converted from the visitors. 5-3 to St Andrews and full time shortly followed.

In a game not short of individual errors, the one person who made the least was the man in the middle with the whistle. Fair play to the ref kept the game going and got most things right again.

Thanks to St Andrew for the game. We look forward to the return leg and best of luck for the rest of the season.

Revie always a threat when we managed to find him, and has speed and fitness well above his age would suggest.
A tireless effort from Reilly, some weeks you’re the hatrick hero and others, well you’re not.
A tough shift on both wings for Sinky and Gareth. Both worked hard throughout the game.
The dancing painter fiddle showed moments of magic on the ball and created several good chances.

Thanks for all the support on the sidelines. Along with the ultras there was a strong turnout down to watch. Much appreciated thanks.

Crieff Over 35s Vs Dollar Glen 35s

Crieff welcomed Dollar Glen over 35s to the Strathearn Campus for the first home game of the season. A debut for the new strips sponsored by Mobile Measures. They provide professional bar services for all
Functions, outdoor events or corporate days. A big thanks to Martin Revie for arranging the support.

The game started at a less frantic pace than the last game, which suited the home team better as it allowed for a bit of possession. There was pressure on the strikers this week, as up until now the shooting boots still had some cobwebs on.
There was a good turnout for the home support and the watching army of fans didn’t have to wait long until star striker Reilly found the back of the net. Some say there was a hint of offside. Reilly said ‘was it f**k’!

The game was fairly even for long periods of the night. Dollar, a tough and experienced opponent made life difficult for the Crieff side. Campbell Cafu Dewar with another strong first half performance, a few less slide tackles this week, replaced with a few maze runs, when he found himself unable to go around the opponent, he’d resort to going through!
There was chances for Crieff to extend their lead with Ross Brock unable to convert, after quality deliveries into the box from Crieff’s Cafu.

N’golo Craggy in Defensive Centre Mid broke up the Dollar attacks well. Reading the play like he was back at Sunday school and reading his bible again. The Dollar #8 was a good player and caused problems when he got on the ball. Cassidy and Craggy made it difficult for the opposition to get any time and space on the ball.

Crieff managed to extend their lead before half time with that man Reilly taking a step back in time, with his shooting boots finding their groove again.
Sinky and Klav with tough shifts on the wings, with a pressure to defend and attack in quick transition.

The Crieff front line of Revie and Reilly continued to cause the Dollar defence problems, surprisingly their pace being a real threat in behind.
The drifting Fiddle found space in good areas and linked the play well to create good chances.

The defence of Beck, Brock and Dewar dealt well with the Dollar attackers. Brock loosing a few more precious hairs with an excellent goal line clearance.
Chivvy in the sticks with another solid performance and several great saves. Luckily this week no trips to A&E and no pens conceded.

As the second half unfolded the tired old bodies of Crieff started to creek. Still working on match fitness and sharpness we turned to a strong bench to bolster efforts! Dr Dave and Coop taking up new CM positions brought fresh energy and work rate to keep making life difficult for the Dollar outfit. Their frustrations begging to show with no6 finding it difficult to deal with.

stocked medical kit ready to help, he instead opted for a winch with his bird to make himself feel better.

More changes as the Crieff side brought on Garry Brock to the defence. Another strong contribution doing wonders for his confidence.
With many changes in a short period of time the game became a bit scrappy at times. Which lead to Dollar getting a goal back and a glimmer of hope.

Gino and Gareth entering the field. Gino, forgetting the Rugby is on today made an interesting ruck attempt (that’s a rugby thing) at the sideline, but otherwise a solid contribution.
Gareth brought more problems for the Dollar defence after Revie had run them ragged.

A strong performance from the whistler in the middle, managed the game well and was consistent throughout the night.
