πββοΈ No race booked? How do you stay consistent?
It's easy to stay motivated when you've got a race looming and a finish line to aim for.
But what about those periods in between?
This is where many runners lose consistency and see their fitness start to slip.
My advice?
π― Set a different type of goal
It doesn't have to be a race. It could be:
β Running 3 times a week
β Improving your Parkrun time
β Building your longest run
β Staying injury-free
β Completing regular strength sessions
π
Keep a plan
Schedule your runs into your week and treat them like any other appointment.
π Focus on the process
Not every run needs to be preparing for race day. Sometimes the goal is simply to become a stronger, healthier and more consistent runner.
Remember: consistency isn't built during race season.
It's built in the weeks and months when nobody is watching and there's no medal waiting at the end.
π Have you got a race booked, or are you currently training without one?
This week wasn't about chasing a big goal or following a strict plan... it was about showing up and staying consistent. πͺ
No race on the horizon, no pressure, just sticking to the routine that builds strong runners. Speed sessions to keep the legs turning over, strength training to stay injury-resistant, and easy miles to enjoy being out there.
Because sometimes the biggest win isn't smashing a PB... it's simply putting in the work week after week. π₯πββοΈ

My Top Tips for Training on Holiday
A holiday doesn't have to mean putting your training on hold!
Whether you're building towards an autumn race or simply want to maintain your fitness, a little planning can go a long way.
βοΈ Go out early β Beat the heat and explore your destination before the crowds arrive.
π Pack the essentials β Running kit takes up very little space, so there's no excuse not to bring it!
π Plan your routes β Use apps like Strava or Garmin to find popular local routes before you travel.
π§ Hydrate more than usual β Hotter climates mean you'll sweat more, so stay on top of your fluid intake.
β±οΈ Focus on time, not pace β Heat, hills and unfamiliar terrain can make running feel harder. Adjust your expectations and enjoy the experience.
ποΈ Keep it simple β If running isn't practical, a quick bodyweight workout, walk or swim will help maintain fitness.
π Remember it's a holiday β Missing a session won't ruin your progress. Enjoy the break, make memories and come back refreshed.
The best training plan is one that fits around your life β holidays included!
Tell me your tips for training whilst one holiday π
Week 24 βοΈ
This week started exactly as planned β speedy club runs, challenging track sessions, and gym workouts all helping to build strength and fitness.
But sometimes the most rewarding miles aren't the ones on the training plan.
On Saturday night, I swapped my running shoes for a volunteer role at the St Catherine's Midnight Walk, supporting hundreds of incredible walkers as they took on 13 miles for a cause close to their hearts.
Watching people dig deep, encourage one another, and keep moving forward through the night was a powerful reminder that determination comes in many forms. Whether you're chasing a PB, walking for a loved one, or simply showing up when it matters most, every step has a purpose.
A week of training, community, and inspiration. β€οΈ
They say everyone has a favourite place.
I've realised mine isn't somewhere you can find on a map.
It's the people who make the miles fly by, turn tough days into good ones, and always make me smile.
My favourite place is wherever this crew happens to be. ππββοΈ
