Fostering Service in Yorkshire and the North East of England: Working to give Children and Young People the best chance

The Acorns Fostering Service is a Darlington-based organisation which is seeking to recruit people in the North East and North Yorkshire, from all walks of life who have the necessary enthusiasm and/or experience to provide fostering placements to children and young people who have a range of diverse needs.

Your Journey to Fostering 🧡

The first step is to get in touch! It’ll just be a friendly chat with a member of our team to answer any questions you have and for us to find out a bit more about you.

We'll then arrange a home visit and hopefully by the end you should have a good idea if you think fostering is your next step. You will also be invited to complete an application form.

Once your application has been accepted, one of our social workers will be in touch to start your fostering assessment. They’ll visit you a few times to collect more information about you, your family, and any skills or experience you have to help you foster.

Your completed assessment with then be presented to our fostering panel. They will make a recommendation to our Agency Decision Maker, who will make the final decision about your approval.

Once you have been approved, we’ll begin to look to match you to a child that will suit your experience and preferences, and we’ll be there to support you every step of the way!

Today is International Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Awareness Day

As a fostering agency, we know that many children in care are affected by Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD). This lifelong neurodevelopmental disability is 100% preventable, yet it remains one of the most misunderstood conditions.

This year’s theme is "Everyone Plays a Part: It Takes a Community." Our incredible foster carers play a massive part every single day, providing the stability, patience, and tailored support that these children need to thrive.

By raising awareness, we can break the stigma, secure better support in schools, and help our young people reach their full potential.
