If you’re planning a wedding, please read this!

The Government is currently consulting on proposed changes to wedding law in England and Wales, and this could completely change the way couples get married in the future.

One of the proposals could mean independent celebrants like me are able to conduct legally binding wedding ceremonies.

But there are lots of other questions up for discussion too, including where ceremonies can take place, what can be included and how personalised your wedding can be.

So whether you’re recently engaged, already married, a celebrant, a wedding supplier or simply have an opinion on how weddings should work please, please have your say!

The consultation is open to everyone, and your views really do matter.

It only takes a little time to complete, but it could have a huge impact on the future of weddings in England and Wales.

Go to the Government website and search “Tying the Knot: Reforming Weddings Law” to find the consultation.

And please share this with anyone who might have something to say! ❤️

Choosing your celebrant is about so much more than liking their Instagram feed!

They’re going to be standing in front of all your favourite people, telling your story and setting the tone for one of the most important parts of your wedding day. So how on earth do you choose the right person for you?

- Meet them face to face (or at least have a video call) and see if you get the right vibe
- Read their reviews and actually read what couples say
- Make sure you have a proper contract with everything clearly set out
- And don’t choose purely on price. You’re investing in an experience, not just someone standing at the front for 30 minutes.

The right celebrant should feel like someone you’re genuinely happy to have as part of your wedding day, not just another supplier you’ve ticked off the list.

Your wedding ceremony doesn’t have to be the most traditional part of your day.

It can be funny, emotional, personal or a little bit chaotic. Completely unique to you.

You can include the stories your guests haven’t heard before, the people who mean the most to you and all the little things that make your relationship yours.

And no, you don’t have to stand there and repeat words that feel like they belong to somebody else.

If that sounds more like your kind of ceremony I think we might get along.

August has been a month filled with love. 4 weddings and a vow renewal (the film sequel maybe?) have left me filled with joy and happiness.

From a beloved dog as the ring bearer, to beautiful personal vows, a sand ceremony with the couples fabulous daughter and a handfasting in honour of the grooms Scottish heritage, every celebration was unique and personal in its own way.

Roll on September for more personal twists, tears, laughter and most of all more love ❤️

I’ve got a text!

I get to be part of some of the biggest, most emotional and meaningful days in people’s lives and I never take that for granted.

That’s why it means so much to get these messages of thanks and excitement.

So here’s a little collection of some lovely words from some lovely couples and families

Thank you for trusting me with your stories.

There are a few things I definitely don’t do as a celebrant

❌ Use a template or copy and paste script
❌ Tell you how your ceremony should be
❌ Rush the process
❌ Appear as a stranger on your wedding day
❌ Make you say anything that doesn’t feel like you

Your ceremony should feel like it could only be about the two of you. Like it was written for and about you… because it was!

And yes, sometimes getting it just right means obsessing over one sentence for an entirely unreasonable amount of time, but thats ok!

If that sounds like your kind of ceremony, you know where I am.
