🏆 4-Way Tournament Report 🏆

A little 4-way tournament today to kick-start our season, with four U10 teams battling it out:

⚽ Gillford Park U10
⚽ Gillford Park Blacks U10
⚽ Abbeytown U10
⚽ Castletown U10

A great opportunity for the boys to get some competitive football under their belts before we kick off our league season in just 7 days!

🏟️ Game 1 — Gillford Park v Gillford Park Blacks

A derby to kick things off against the Blacks.

We started very sluggishly and never really got going, although we were always in control of the game. We created a few opportunities but couldn’t quite find that end product, with a few chances going begging.

Eventually, the boys found the breakthrough with a couple of late goals to finish with a victory.

🏟️ Game 2 — Gillford Park v Abbeytown

We always have to be at our best to beat a strong Abbeytown team, and today was no different.

The boys certainly stepped up. We found our stride in this game, with some brilliant passing football on display and the boys really starting to play the Gillford way.

A fantastic victory against a very strong opponent.

🏟️ Game 3 — Gillford Park v Castletown

A comfortable win in this game, but what was really good to see was that even though we dominated and scored a number of goals, the boys kept their composure throughout and continued to stick to the Gillford way of playing.

A comfortable victory gave us 3 wins from 3 in the group stage.

🏆 Champions League Final — Gillford Park v Abbeytown

We told the boys that Abbeytown would be looking for revenge and we certainly weren’t wrong!

Although we took lead, Abbeytown were still very strong and made sure we knew we had to be at our best if we wanted to get anything from the game.

They kept the pressure on in the first half, getting a goal back and looking the more likely team to score again.

During half-time, we reminded the boys to continue playing our way, keep calm on the ball and trust that the opportunities would come.

And they certainly took it on board.

The boys came out for the second half and put their foot on the gas to win the tournament overall! 🏆

A brilliant display throughout from all the boys. Some great footwork, some great passing and some great strikes.

Most importantly, they showed that when they stick to our way of playing and trust what we’ve worked on, the opportunities will come.

Going into the final we were undecided and had a couple of players in mind.

However, after the final it was an easy decision.

Lennon took control of the game and was absolutely everywhere.

He demonstrated brilliance throughout and really put his best foot forward when it mattered most.

A superb performance all round.

A fantastic experience for our Gillford Park Under 11s at St George’s Park, home of England’s national teams, as the boys took part in the All Stars Cup.

Playing at the same venue where England stars such as Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham train made the day even more special. It was a brilliant opportunity for the boys to experience the surroundings of the England team!

The boys played teams from all around the country and won one of many finals decided on a penalty shootout! ⚽️ 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿
