Expectation vs reality: Wall Ball edition.

Wall balls in training are gross enough… but after 100 at THE END of a full Hyrox?!

No thanks!! 😂

No, actually I really love wall balls (and miss them whilst injured) but when you cross the 50th wall ball in a Hyrox… something just goes doesn’t it?

Like your soul leaving your body when you realise you’ve got another 50 to do and you have NO energy left and no muscles at all in your legs / shoulders…

In a Hyrox it’s all about pacing your wall balls.

They’re last.
They’re gross

But when you’ve done them…. You’re done. Like 100% finished your race.

So it’s best to pace your reps, pace your REST and get them done as soon as possible ….

… without getting any “no reps”

So how do you do it?

> Build the muscles required and get them used to high-volume, high intensity.
> Build your engine (CV work to increase your capacity)
> and get use to being uncomfortable at the wall ball station.

Tell me I’m lying though… do wall balls feel like this for you after Rep 100…?

Getting technique wrong on sled push can cost you big time.

> it increases your station time
> builds up lactic acid in your legs
> has a major effect on ability to bounce back

Nailing your sled technique, through body positioning and strategy can make all the difference.

Don’t just focus on it being a weight you need to move.

Respect the station and put in the work on your technique.

Save this for your next sled session 💪🏻

One thing I’ve learnt over the last few months is that growth rarely looks the way you expect it to.

It’s easy to feel like you’re taking a step backwards when plans change.

But sometimes a detour isn’t a setback, it’s just the route you were meant to take.

I’m choosing to trust the process and keep moving forwards… even if it looks different to how I imagined.

And this is how I approach unexpected moments in training with my clients too, because no matter what. It’s about showing up anyway and adapting where needed.

If you’re in a season where things feel uncertain, keep going. You don’t need to have it all figured out, you just need to keep putting one foot in front of the other.

Here’s to new chapters and growing along the way✨
