Two big penalty decisions against City during normal time meant the game finished 2-2 before playing extra time. The additional 30 minutes were a step too far for City in a game in which we were never in front. We exit the President's Cup in the first round. Best of luck to Borden in the remainder of the competition.

Good luck to the boys today. Fingers crossed for our name to be in the hat for the second round of the cup.

Borden Village Match Preview – The Presidents Cup

After City’s mixed start to the season (one win, one draw and two defeats), they take a break from league action this Saturday when they travel to Sittingbourne to take on Borden Village in the first round of the Presidents Cup.

The Kent County Football League (KCFL) Presidents Cup is the premier knockout cup competition for clubs competing across the upper tiers of the Kent County Football League structure and the tournament is generally contested by the first teams of clubs operating within the league's top tiers - principally the Premier Division down through Division One (Central & East / West).

Matches kick-off at 2.15pm - thirty minutes earlier than normal to allow for extra-time if required and if the score remains level even after the extra-time period has been completed, a penalty shootout then takes place to decide who advances to the next round.

The winners are scheduled to meet whoever prevails from the FC Revo vs Bocca Juniors tie also being played on Saturday at the St Gregory’s Catholic School in Tunbridge Wells.

Borden have also had a mixed start to the season with just one win and two defeats from their three matches played so far. They were beaten at home by FC Anchorians in their opening fixture (2-3), before an impressive home 3-1 win against Dover Rangers was followed by defeat at Woodnesborough 0-2.

Interestingly, their five goals so far this season have all been scored by different players – City managed seven before that run was broken!

The game will be played at the Borden Playstool which is the village's historic recreation ground and central community space.

Directions: From the A2 London Road, turn into Wises Lane next to the Long Hop public house. Follow the lane towards the village and the ground is on the left opposite a large thatched roof house – if you pass the church on your right, you have gone too far.

Parking is available, but space at the ground itself is very limited and this on-site space fills up very quickly. For match days, visitors are officially advised to use the Borden Parish Hall car park which is located at the rear of the village church (just a short 2-minute walk from the ground). Street Parking is not advised because the local roads surrounding the green (such as Wises Lane and School Lane) are narrow and frequently used by farm traffic.

With the conclusion of our August fixtures, having played one at home and three away, it's time to start bringing you those all important statistics, aside from the main one of played 4, won 1, drawn 1 and lost 2.

Mark Newman leads the way with his 2 goals but 6 other players are hot on his heels with 1 goal apiece.

Four players have started every match so far. Captain Aaron James along with Louis Brooks-Read, Ade Kunlee and Luke Scott.

With no cup games played yet the league starts, subs, goals and player of the match statistics are the totals too...that is until Saturday's cup game. Hopefully a few more in the goals column come 4:15pm🤞

Also, the Player of the Match is only awarded at home games. That means just one award so far. The tireless efforts of Oscar Weight last Saturday against TW Foresters.

The young ones and the slightly older ones are both playing this Saturday. A first league match for the Vets and a first match in the newly renamed President's Cup for the Mens.
