There are 1000’s of great exercises that will help your aerial but I thought I’d highlight some that DIRECTLY link to what you do in the air 💪✨
It’s easy to do your gym movements or follow a program without knowing the specific impact the exercises will have on your aerial. I’ve put them side by side so you can see exactly how your training on the ground translates to the air!
I’ve chosen exercises that use exactly the same pathways as the hoop tricks which means you’re strengthening the muscles needed to do them while working them through the same pathway - this will help to improve your strength in the air faster! Especially if you are newer to the air or gym!
Being able to do something isn’t just the strength it takes, it’s also the brains ability to communicate to the muscles. Work them in the same pathway more - you’ll get results faster!
The bonus of doing them in the gym is you will see the increments of strength go up much faster 0.5kg 1kg etc whereas whole body movements like a straddle up will take a lot longer to see 1 rep increases!

I’m all for removing the barriers that stop you from reaching your goals. It’s way too easy to get inside your own head and find reasons not to start.
Most of my clients started with me because they didn’t feel confident to go it alone… and now? I’ve seen them have countless wins! Many they didn’t even set out to achieve. 🙌🏻
These tips are designed to help you feel more confident walking into a new gym and actually enjoy your first few sessions.
Just a note on Tip 1 vs Tip 2, they’re not a contradiction. Tip 1 helps you scope out the gym at the time you’ll normally train, so you know what to expect. Tip 2 helps you ease in with your first session at a quieter time so you can get your bearings without the pressure.
Let’s be real, the vibe of a gym matters. I used to love training in a gym with a lot of older folks doing physio, the squat rack was always free and no one was staring. Now I train at where everyone’s working hard, focused on their goals, not watching what anyone else is doing. The kind of environment makes all the difference. 🔥

One months progress!!!!! 👏🏻👏🏻
It sounds obvious but if you want to improve something… Do. The. Thing.
Not 100 other exercises that might assist or help improve. Do the skill that you want to see improvement in.
Post back injury I’ve been so scared to train back flexibility but it is the only way I’ll get back the flexibility lost to the injury. The fact that I can now backbend without pain is huge!!! Let alone get bendier!
So here I am showing up each week and getting the results for the work 😁
For those not sure what they’re looking at in this picture for the flexibility gains:
🤸🏼♀️my hands are wayyyyy closer to my feet (used the same size font)
🤸🏼♀️ my shoulders are much better stacked over my hands. Ideally aiming for shoulders over wrists not like the top photo where my shoulders are over my fingertips!
If you want some help with your flexibility hit me up, there is some space in my roster coming up.
