🚲 What if the school run, the weekly shop and your commute didn’t need a car?
New research led by University of Brighton academics found that more than half of journeys made by Brighton families using e-cargo bikes replaced trips that would otherwise have been taken by car. Even more striking, one in five participants went on to buy an e-bike or e-cargo bike after the trial.
The findings of the project dubbed Electric Vehicles for Active and Digital Travel (ELEVATE) are already helping shape the future of sustainable transport in the city, supporting a successful funding bid that has expanded access to e-cargo bikes for residents and local businesses across Brighton & Hove.
From cutting emissions to making everyday travel more enjoyable, the study shows how giving people the chance to try e-cargo bikes could help transform the way we move around our cities.

Share the Road. Think Bike, stay Safe.
Cyclists and motorcyclists have equal rights on the road, and everyone deserves to get home safely.
Close pass or close call?
Drivers: pass wide, be patient, and anticipate others’ movements.🚗
Cyclists: ride centrally on quiet roads, in slower traffic, and near junctions or road narrowings. Keep at least 0.5m from the kerb (more where it’s safer on busy roads). 🚲
Riding in groups?
Two abreast is allowed, and often safer. Be mindful of traffic and let vehicles pass when it’s safe to do so.
A little space and awareness saves lives.
