Brighstone 4-1 Ryde saints Rovers.
(Half time 3-0)

After the lads had learnt that we’d won the self appointed trophy for best kept pitch in Brighstone 2026 (IYKYK)

and after some confusion on ko times and early arrivals everyone was ready to start the morning. With a minute silence for IOW football legend Darren Powell who sadly passed away recently.

A change in formation for today’s game and for the safety of our players. We will not be publishing our newly launched formation. we won’t be sharing strict need to know facts on Facebook. You’ll have to come and watch the games for that info.

The game was kicked off by the gaffers nipper Charlie with a first time worldy effort half volley which lobbed the keep in the first ten minutes with the coach firmly reiterating the importance of taking a first touch 🙄 (good goal Charlie) 😂

Soon after Leo finds himself on the score board with a goal straight from the training ground we know as “pass, pass shoot score yay” 💪

Brighstone were kept on their toes with retaliatory attacks but Beau was cool Calm and collected and had an answer for everything.

5 minutes before half time Leo finds himself on the score sheet again from a lovely ball from his new friend upfront we call Roo.

Half time. Brighstone 3-0 Ryde Rovers

*what do you do at 3-0 up at half time? You have oranges and you ask for more. More determination, more link ups more aggression and more communication on the pitch. You then deliver a very powerful message in the huddle where west wight neighbours can hear the cheers of the players before they take to the pitch again” (if you want to know what was said, it’s probably best kept as a secret)

2nd half….
Ryde had obviously had a decent team talk and came out stronger with shots being fired at Beau here and there. The Defence having to put a shift in as always but nicely helped by midfield.

20 mins in a scrappy clearance effort and all round bundle meant an own goal but the lads went back to the centre and pressed immediately with Leo scoring his first (of many) hatricks this season.

The lads are away to Bembridge next week and then home on the 11th October.

It’s early days but it’s looking like a good season already 😊

Great news coming in this evening for those Sunday early risers fancying a football match on the rec!!!

A trip to Seaview this morning for our first league game of the season.
With high hopes and gunning for a game after last weeks cup game the lads were out of the blocks and competing from the off. 😊

Ryde Ravens were well drilled with great balls played down the wings and through balls and also not afraid to shoot from most places on the pitch.

20 minutes or so passed and brighstone conceded

End to end again until half time.

Brighstone managed to score early in the second half levelling the game with a solo effort from Leo 1-1.

End to end football again with tensions heightening Rydes striker managed to break through and put them up 2-1.

From there, the last 10 minutes or so became scrappy. Ryde trying to hang on. Brighstone trying to level. An unlucky hand ball in Brighstone’s area and a penalty awarded. 3-1
Followed by a fourth well battled goal by Ryde in the last moments.

Unlucky to concede 4 today. Ryde just managed to put them away. That’s the game after all.

We host the 3rd Ryde team next week at home where we will be hoping to get some points on the board.

IOW cup 1st round vs Ryde saints Raiders.

The lads got to play at smallbrook stadium this morning. Once graced by Alan shearer and Matt le-tisier (amongst others) in 1991. Slight claim to fame as a 13 year old? 🤷🏽

Having the confidence from previous friendlies through the summer and gagging for the first whistle it was an end to end game with some ‘fruity’ moments. Smashing tackles, verbal exchanges, warnings from the ref, (from both sides I’ll add 😉)

Brighstone went 0-1 down 20 mins in from a sloppy attempt but re set and went straight back at them. With chances on goal with attempts going just the wrong side of the posts.

Half time, water, confidence boost and a good bit of tactical talk the lads went straight out again with more chances and tired legs were unable to convert to the score board.

Some words and views from our hosts fanfare haulted the game for a short period whilst composure was reset and away we went.

Ryde saints scored their 2nd and last goal from a scramble on the line and not long after the whistle was blown, hands were shaking and Brighstone left with their heads held high.

If Brighstone play this way week in week out. They’re in for a great season and some great memories!!

Next week we play Ryde saints Ravens,this time in seaview for the first league game of 26/27 season!!! Looking for 3pm it’s to kick start the season.

First cut in the drought to knock those pesky flower and seed heads off prior to
Sundays friendly with our west wight neighbours.
Sunday 10:00hrs kick off if you fancy a bit of grass roots bank holiday football.

Awards!!! 🏆

We were lucky with the weather yesterday as we celebrated the season with the lads.

Plenty of trophies, burgers, adults vs kids game and more memories made.

Thanks to everyone who has helped us this season in many ways.

Well done to the lads for a great season!!

We’ll still be training and having friendlies as we wait for September. So you’ll still have us making noise on Sunday mornings. Sorry. 😂
