Thurlby Tigers have an agreement with the Methodist Church on the High Street to use their Car Park on Saturday mornings. If you are attending a match or session today and are familiar with the area, please consider parking here to reduce congestion at Lawrance Park.

Tomorrow is the first round of fixtures for the 2026/27 season, so a huge good luck to every Thurlby Tigers team getting back out on the pitch this weekend.

To the players: enjoy it, be brave, try things and look after your teammates.

To the coaches and volunteers: thank you for everything you’ve already done to get the season underway.

First match weekend of the season is nearly here – so this is your friendly reminder that 7.30am on Saturday is a terrible time to discover one shin pad has vanished. 😬

New school year. New football season. New routines to remember. 😅

For lots of our younger Tigers, September means new teachers, new classrooms, new teams – and sometimes their very first proper football matches too.

It’s a lot. So if the boots are on the right feet, the water bottle makes it out of the car and they finish the weekend wanting to play again, we’ll call that a pretty good start. 🐯⚽

A quick one to save for the season ahead. 📌

Youth football now grows with the players:

🐯 U7 — 3v3
⚽ U8–U9 — 5v5
⚽ U10–U11 — 7v7
⚽ U12–U13 — 9v9
⚽ U14+ — 11v11

The idea is simple: smaller-sided football for longer, so young players get more time on the ball and more opportunity to develop before the game gets bigger around them.

Different format. Same aim: children enjoying their football and wanting to come back next week.

Why 3v3 for U7s? Because when there are only six children on the pitch, there aren’t many places to hide. 😄

More touches. More chances to dribble. More decisions. More opportunities to attack, defend, score, lose the ball, win it back and try again.

That is exactly the point of the new format. At this age, development comes from being involved – not standing somewhere on a bigger pitch waiting for the ball to arrive.

It might look a little different from the sidelines this season. For the children, that’s a good thing. ⚽🐯

Football is changing for our youngest players this season — and for a very good reason. ⚽

From 2026/27, U7 football moves to 3v3, with the move through 5v5, 7v7, 9v9 and eventually 11v11 happening a little later than before. That means our youngest Tigers get more time on the ball, more involvement in games and more opportunities to make decisions for themselves.

It is part of the FA’s FutureFit changes to youth football, developed through research, testing and looking at how the game is played elsewhere in Europe. And it fits rather nicely with something we have always believed at TTFC: football should grow with the child, not rush the child towards the adult game.
