Striker Abbie Humphreys has also been with us from the start, making 34 appearances so far for the Green and White.

This Sunday we play Whitley Bay Lionesses in the opening round of the Northumberland League Cup, a 2pm kickoff at Monkseaton High School.

Finishing 4th in Division One last season, Whitley Bay are off to a flying start and have won all four of their opening games, already looking setting the pace when it comes to the race for promotion. A talented young side, The Bay are a team definitely capable of causing us problems on Sunday, especially with a number of our key players unavailable.

This actually won't be the first time our two sides have met, as Whitley were actually our first ever opponents since reforming, as we hosted them in a friendly at Wensleydale back in July of 2025. Spartans won that game 4-2 and we expect a similarly close match this time around, though we recognise our opponents have strengthened their squad since then and will be confident of getting one over on us.

As always, any and all support is welcome on the day. Please note, at grounds without clear fenced boundaries, supporters must sit/stand away from the 'technical areas' where both teams subs and coaches are located. We love you, but rules are rules! 😁

There were some massive performances in our FA Cup match on Sunday, but few would argue that Player of the Match goes to goalkeeper and penalty shootout hero, Amber Cochrane!

As well as making three sensational saves in the shootout, Amber also pulled off a couple great blocks during regular time that could otherwise have meant we would be going out at the full time whistle.

Amber is sponsored by Peggys Parlour Ltd, who provide excellent dog grooming services in Blyth.

Please note, due to our FA Cup involvement, a few of our fixtures have been moved around. Instead of the previously advertised league game at Croft Park this Sunday against Cramlington United, we are AWAY to Whitley Bay in the League Cup instead.

Just in case anyone turns up to Croft Park and wonders where we are. 🤨

POST MATCH INTERVIEW - Manager, Linda Bush

You must be happy with that result, especially coming into the game as slight underdogs?

I'm absolutely over the moon, I can't really pick just one word to describe just what this team has achieved today. Amazing, magnificent, fantastic, heroic, we just showed so much character today! A little bit less quality than usual, but we had to really fight in a tough game today in order to come out of it as winners. I'm really really happy!

Obviously Blyth conceded a penalty right before half time, but did you feel a draw was a fair reflection of the game overall?

I think so. On paper we may have been underdogs, but I think playing at Croft Park made a big difference and having that crowd behind gave us a bit of an edge, which may have balanced things out a bit. You could tell we're a side that's come up from Division Two whilst Morpeth looked fitter and faster than us, with some very athletic players who are well established at this level. In pre season, they beat us 3-2 at Craik Park so home advantage maybe evened things out and yeah, a draw at full time was a pretty fair reflection of the game.

Knowing that the game could potentially end in a penalty shootout, did you prepare the players beforehand?

Absolutely! We've been preparing for penalties since before the last tie against West Allotment Celtic, practicing shootouts at both weekly training sessions, even simulating a bit of an atmosphere and some of the mind games that go on. Twenty minutes before kickoff, I asked who would be prepared to take a penalty if it came to it and those who said yes stayed out and did a bit extra practice, they weren't allowed back into the changing rooms until they scored. A big shout-out to substitute Hayley Brown, who offered her insight in picking the right order of penalty takers, so that we were extra prepared.

It was a record attendance for the women's team at Croft Park, with 313 spectators. You mentioned home advantage, but just how much of a difference does having a big crowd make?

I cannot thank them enough, because the people who came out today to support the team really made a difference! One of the things I was a bit concerned about was we didn't really have much action down in their half early on, the wind was against us and there wasn't much for the crowd to get involved in, but as soon as we settled and started getting tackles in and played some nice football, the crowd really got behind us. I really felt that gave us that extra kick to go forward, like having an extra player. They were phenomenal! A massive thank you as well to all the coaching staff and volunteers today for all their hard work, I wholeheartedly believe every one of them has played a part in getting us to where we are.
