What started as small, practical changes such as WhatsApp coordination groups and clubhouse maps showing who lives nearby, led to a greater impact in terms of safer training nights, lower costs, and closer communities, with players, parents and coaches bonding along the way.

💭 A recent report from Women in Sport and Leeds Beckett University found that 77% of CEOs (drawing on 67 organisational leaders) agree that coaching as a career pathway is ill-defined and needs modernising. For women, that ambiguity is an added barrier on top of an already uneven playing field.
Men still hold three quarters of Chair, CEO and Performance Director roles across the twenty most popular sports in England. The coaching workforce reflects the same pattern, with women facing disparity in both opportunity and treatment at every level. 📉
There are reasons for optimism however. Recent high-profile coaching appointments in men's sport like Marie-Louise Eta and Sarah Taylor in football and cricket respectively show what's possible and progress is happening, but there's still a long way to go.⏩️
At grassroots level in particular, girls benefit from coaches who share their lived experience, and visible female role models shape what the next generation believes is possible for them, in sport and beyond.
As the old adage goes: 'if you can see it, you can be it'. 💪
