Tennis Legacy Foundation Northern Ireland

Let's save the Jordanstown University public tennis courts. Jordanstown and Newtownabbey tennis has lost 6 public tennis courts in less than a year . This is a concern and must be addressed if Public Tennis Courts and the inclusive sport of tennis is to survive in the face of the expanding elite , expensive Padel which is dominating investment in racket sports .
The Public Tennis Courts refurbishment money 670k of Government money must be released and invested in Jordanstown University public tennis courts to get them reopened and new replacement courts for the Three Mile Water Park Doagh Road 3 public courts we lost recently.
We spoke with Gordon Lyons Northern Ireland Sports Minister recently and we are planning a meeting with Jordanstown and Newtownabbey Community Tennis players and stakeholders and will take this forward.
Public Tennis courts sit on a threshold of survival,let's survive and preserve the courts for the future generations.

It's the end of an era for the Jordanstown University of Ulster Courts . Three wonderful tennis courts are now closed . I made a return to playing tennis on these courts when they opened in 1998,after my absence of 11 years from the sport of tennis . It began as 1 new standard Desso Grand Slam tennis court in 1998 and another 2 were added. They provided hours of tennis, fun and enjoyment for generations of students ,local tennis players ,a Jordanstown Tennis Club , child players on the Tennis Fundamental coaching programs and more players and fans of tennis . These courts and the staff in the UUJ Sports Centre were fabulous over the years and it's another sad loss to Jordanstown & Newtownabbey Community Tennis and Northern Ireland Tennis .

The main men from Belfast are Champions again at the County Antrim Championships 2026. Jordan McKeown Hawarden Tennis Club award winning Coach of the Year 2026 wins the men's singles title. Dylan Leeman Irish National Indoors champion from Hawarden Tennis Club retains his men's Doubles title with his partner Belfast player and Coach Michael Blease. Northern Ireland's premier grass court tournament the County Antrim Championships starts Saturday 11th at Ballycastle. Northern Ireland top player Dylan Leeman the reigning Treble champion and his doubles partner Jordan McKeown from Hawarden Tennis Club will be playing. Entry is Free with spectators welcome and it's a wonderful tournament ,a recommended day out for all the family with great hospitality.
