Redfearn's Blues welcomed our good friends at 4G1 to S71 2JS, in our final friendly before we get down to the serious business of league action.
Redfearn's lined up with Reed in goal, Gregory and Singh in defence, Fraser the anchor in CM, Longley and Cherry providing the threat from the wings with Briscoe leading the line. We welcomed back France and Forgione from holiday and Hoyle back from injury, to complete the match day squad. Club Captain Hellewell still unavailable for selection.
The game was played in a great spirit, with both teams giving their all in a tight and even first half, with few chances created and the defences on top.
It wasn't until late in the game when the players started to tire that the chances started being created and the goals started to flow, some excellent finishing finally lighting up a cloudy and breezy evening.
With both teams putting on a great show over 60 minutes of football, a special mention has to go to 4G1 Player Development Football Academy, who had 23 players on show over the 2 teams, 9 of which were in the Redfearn's Blues squad.
The coaching our boys receive at 4G1 has undoubtably played a massive part in their development and is one of the main reason's we play at the level we do.
Goal contributions for the Blues....
⚽ Forgione (free kick)
⚽ Singh (Longley)
⚽ Hoyle (Longley)
⚽ Briscoe
⚽ Briscoe (Hoyle)
Next up we open our league campaign against Ecclesall Rangers, 9.30am KO at Redfearn's JFC 💪 ⚽ 💙

After a short break over the summer, the boys returned to action last night with their first pre season friendly, hosting the Garforth A League champions and cup winners, Wakefield AFC Blues.
It was always going to be a difficult evening in the sunshine for the boys against one of the best sides in West Yorkshire, and to add to the tough fixture the Blues had 3 players missing for various reasons.
Redfearns lined up with Reed in goal, Singh and Gregory at the back, Fraser, Cherry and Briscoe in midfield and Hoyle leading the line, Longley completing the match day squad. France, Hellewell and Forgione unavailable for selection on this occasion.
The traditional slow start was not evident tonight, the boys started quickly and aggressively, putting the visitors on the back foot immediately.
The first goal was a superb team goal, with Singh and Gregory playing out from the back, Cherry dropping into central midfield from the left to receive the ball on the half way line, before using his rapid pace to beat his marker and to smash the ball home.
The second goal was scored almost immediately after, this time it was Briscoe who claimed the assist after some good work in the corner, playing in Cherry who again made no mistake.
Wakefield pulled a goal back just before half time when their striker latched onto a loose ball and finished well past Reed.
Half time was reached with the Blues a goal to the good and looking in total control for the most part.
Redfearns extended their lead early in the second half, a well worked corner between Cherry and Longley saw a cross evade the defenders and Briscoe picking the ball up in the area, we all know how that ends !
With time running out the visitors pulled one back with a great near post volley from a corner to make for a nervy finish.
The Blues saw out the game with ease to record a well deserved and fantastic win against a high level side in their opening pre season friendly.
Parents player of the match was Cherry, who scored 2 and had a big part in the third.
Managers award went to Singh and Gregory, who both defended resolutely throughout and seem to have the makings of a solid partnership in defence blossoming.

We go again tonight against our U11s, again with a depleted squad, but with a growing belief that the squad is more than ready to compete with the big boys of the A division.
The sense of togetherness, resolve and spirit the boys are creating is amazing to see, it will carry them through the tough times ahead this coming season.

Redfearn’s Blues travelled to Doncaster for their first pre season friendly, in sweltering heat against a strong and physical Hyde Park Knight’s team.
After recently beating the hosts in a tournament final, this fixture was always going to be a tough one, with revenge on the minds of the Hyde Park players.
Redfearn’s lined up with Reed in goal, France and debutant Singh in defence, Cherry, Hellewell (C) and Longley in midfield with Hoyle leading the line for the Blues. Briscoe and Fraser completing the match day squad, with Gregory and Forgione unavailable for selection.
After a lackluster weekend performance, the boys were keen to get back at it as soon as possible and didn’t disappoint.
Straight from the kick off the boys were on the front foot, controlling the game and having the hosts chasing the ball in 30+ degree heat. The Blues played some delightful one touch football on a pitch that was dry, bobbly and hard, moving the ball quickly and at pace, cutting through the Hyde Park low block of 2 rows of 3 with ease.
Wave after wave of Redfearn’s attacks saw the boys come close on many occasions, but the outstanding Hyde Park keeper kept the hosts level and in the game.
Redfearns finally broke the resolve of the hosts, Longley beating the full back for pace, pulling the ball back and Briscoe making no mistake from close range with an unstoppable effort that almost broke the net.
All the Redfearn’s boys played their part in a game that they dominated from start to finish, but the stand out performer for Redfearns was Singh, who marshaled the back line, set wave after wave of attacks off and never gave the hosts a look in.
A good workout in the heat for the boys, a great reaction after the weekend and a solid win / performance for the Blues.
We continue to work hard in preparation for the upcoming A division season, lots of work still to do but we’re heading in the right direction. The squad is the strongest it’s ever been, with Singh, Gregory and Hoyle adding even more quality to our talented squad.

After the disappointment of losing the tournament final at the weekend when the boys weren’t at their best, it was straight back to the grind for the squad yesterday with an intense training session in the heat delivered by 4G1 Player Development Football Academy.
The boys were pushed to their absolute limits, with some high level drills, passage of plays and finishing.
Trainer of the week was GK Teddy, who was subjected to some fierce shots from the Blues attacking players, but stood tall and produced some top level saves 🧤
Next up is a trip tonight to Hyde Park Knights in Doncaster, a high achieving team playing up a year as U11s in their respective league.

💙 Transfer business complete !! 💙
The Blues have been active in the transfer market this summer, with business now complete, the squad settled and pre season well under way.
We can now officially announce the signings of some real quality additions to the squad, who will level the playing staff up further as we prepare to mix it with the big boys at the top end of the A division.
First up we have William, who joins us from Wombwell Main after a stellar season in the B division, scoring dozens of goals and creating many more. Will is a proper handful for defenders, incredibly skillful, can play on both wings or as a striker, adding more firepower to a squad already brimming with attacking talent.
Next up we have Brax, formally of Ossett Town & Yorkshire RTC. Brax adds quality at the back and in centre mid, demanding the ball, calm in possession, always looking to pass to feet and is a leader on the pitch, giving instructions and organising from the back. Brax is also a regular in the JPL All Stars team, which further demonstrates the quality he brings to any squad.
Last up but by no means least, we have a player that needs no introduction and is well known on the local football scene. We can now welcome Ajeet to the Blues squad, a player we’ve admired for years through watching him play for his former grass roots side Tykes Reds and his JPL side 4G1. Ajeet adds strength, skill and footballing intelligence to the Redfearn’s defence, which will be invaluable for the squad as we pitch ourselves against the best teams / strikers in the area this coming season.
We’d like to officially welcome the 3 additions and their parents to the Redfearn’s Blues football family !
We are extremely excited that the 3 players and their parents have joined us on our grass roots journey and truly honored they have trusted us with the boys footballing development this season.
The squad assembled for the 26/27 season is bursting with talent from back to front, we can’t wait to see what the boys can produce this season against the top teams from South Yorkshire & North Derbyshire. ⚽️💪
