On Sunday just past, Bangor Academy 2017s took part in the inaugural Channing Day Memorial Tournament hosted by Comber Rec.

The team performed superbly, going undefeated throughout the tournament playing great football and showing great determination.

They ended up defeating the hosts 1-0 in a very well contested final with the trophy presented by Corporal Day’s mother.

Huge congratulations to our 2010 Academy player Luke Greer who enjoyed an incredible experience playing in the Futsal UEFA Champions League last week.

We have no doubt Luke excelled himself throughout and we look forward to him representing our Academy this season.

Our UEFA Futsal Champions League campaign comes to an end with an 8–3 defeat to English champions London Genesis.

A brace from Ryan McMenemy and another from Bolbot gave us our three goals. With under five minutes to go, we moved to the flying goalkeeper in search of a way back into the game — a calculated risk that ultimately allowed Genesis to stretch the scoreline.

Not everything went our way this week — but that’s sport. We battled, pushed and competed throughout and arguably deserved to leave Athens with a lot more.

A really special moment today too. ❤️

16-year-old Sparta Academy product Luke Greer made his UEFA Champions League debut and played an instrumental part in creating our final goal.

From our Academy to competing and contributing on the European stage. An exciting moment for Luke and for the future of Sparta.

Three games against three national champions. These experiences do nothing but make us stronger and give plenty to build on.

National League football requires a lot of dedication and commitment from players, coaches and parents alike.

But it also brings tremendous rewards, allowing our Academy players with a chance to test themselves against the very nationwide on a weekly basis.

A huge congratulations to our 2016 Colts team who secured silverware at the Craigavon City tournament at the end of July.

What was even more impressive was that the boys were playing in a 2015 tournament and they impressed everyone with their skill, teamwork and hard work.

Special mention must go to 2017 Ben, who played up 2 age groups and never looked out of place and shone throughout.
