A good example of a pathway working as intended last night. ⚽️

One of our U17 players stepped up to join the U20 squad for their game against Lochmaben FC in their South of Scotland League fixture , getting the opportunity to train and play alongside the next age group.

With the newly formed U20s providing a link between U17s and adult football, the aim is to create genuine opportunities for players to progress through the club and experience the next level when ready.

That progression is what this new pathway is all about.

Stranraer 9–3 Annan Athletic U17s

A difficult afternoon on the road for the U17s, despite a really positive opening to the game.

Annan started brightly, creating chances and putting Stranraer under pressure during the opening stages, but we were punished heavily for a short spell of defensive mistakes, conceding three goals in quick succession.

The boys continued to compete and showed some good moments going forward, with Harvey scoring twice — including an excellent free kick — and Cale also getting on the scoresheet.

Unfortunately, too many individual errors and failures to deal with direct balls allowed Stranraer to keep creating opportunities, and they were clinical when those chances came.

A tough result and plenty for us to work on, particularly defensively and in how we react when momentum turns against us.

Pre-Season Complete!

Today we played the last of our pre-season friendlies, bringing our preparations to a close ahead of the new season.

Two games played this week, both against very different teams with very different styles of play. One feisty and vocal, and the other organised and clinical. Both provided the boys with different challenges and plenty of opportunities to learn from.

Goals across the two games came from Mitch and Harvey 👏👏with plenty of other chances created along the way. There were some great efforts on goal, with a few just not quite finding the back of the net, plenty to take confidence from as we continue to work on our finishing and decision-making.

Pre-season games are about testing the team, trying different things and identifying the areas we need to develop. These games have certainly given us plenty to build on, while also showing some positive signs as the boys continue to grow together and develop their understanding as a team.

Now it’s time for the league! 💪

A really poor performance from us against a very physical, organised and confident squad from Carlisle City FC.

We were down to a skeleton squad with a lot of our usual starters unavailable, but regardless of who was on the pitch, we know we’re capable of much better than that.

All our goals today from Harvey 👏

Sometimes you just have to take the result, learn from it and move on. Plenty to work on this week and plenty to put right next time out.
