WHAT PROFILES DO OUR TREES FIT? — WEEK 2

This week, we’re introducing The Avant XL — a close relation to the Avant, but with a little more room where it matters!

The Avant XL follows a similar profile to the Avant, but is designed to accommodate more wither and a broader, thicker-set frame.

It can be a great option for those broader Thoroughbred types, including Thoroughbred × Draft crosses, where you still have wither but need a little more width and substance through the body.

As always, every horse is an individual, and the right tree isn’t simply about breed — it’s about the individual shape and profile of your horse.

Our advice? Always seek the guidance of one of our trusted, qualified fitters to ensure you and your horse get the best possible fit.

A Medium Wide is a Medium Wide… isn’t it?

When it comes to saddle trees, width and shape are not the same thing.

Within our tree range, a Medium Wide is always a 90° angle, regardless of which tree style it is.


A horse with a broad, flatter spine may require a very different tree profile from a horse with a narrower or more prominent spine — but that does not mean the angle of a Medium Wide changes.

OUR NEW MINI SERIES: WHAT PROFILES DO OUR TREES SUIT?

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be taking a closer look at our range of trees and exploring which horse profiles each one is best suited to.

We’re kicking things off with Week 1: The Mighty Avant!

The Avant is designed with your Thoroughbred types in mind — horses with withers and a gradual rise through the back towards the last rib.

Understanding your horse’s shape is an important part of finding the right tree, and we hope this series helps you get a better understanding of the different profiles our trees are designed to accommodate.

But remember — every horse is an individual!
We always recommend seeking the advice of one of our trusted, qualified fitters to ensure both you and your horse get the best possible fit.

Keep an eye out for Week 2, where we’ll be introducing another of our trees and the horse profiles it’s designed to suit!

Before every Harry Dabbs saddle leaves our workshop, it undergoes a thorough quality inspection. Every stitch, panel, buckle, and finish is carefully checked by our experienced team to ensure it meets the exceptional standards we're proud to put our name to.
