⚽ AC Rovers Bellshill 3–2 Villa Park FC

A first-half hat-trick from Lewis Rodden was enough to see us through a thrilling opening league game against Villa Park.

The match started brightly, with both teams fighting for control. Once we settled, the boys began playing our brand of football and took charge of the game. Three brilliant first-half goals from Lewis Rodden sent us into the break with a commanding lead. ⚽⚽⚽

We started the second half well, but Villa Park pulled one back from the penalty spot before their No.9 added a second shortly afterwards.

The game then exploded into life, with chances at both ends! Lewis Rodden nearly scored straight from the restart, while both goalkeepers produced some excellent saves.

Our No.1, Lewis McCartney, stepped up when we needed him most—saving a penalty to protect our lead! 🧤

A hard-fought performance from every one of the boys to secure all three points. Credit to Villa Park for a brilliant, competitive game.

After topping our Challenge Cup group, we now turn our attention to league action as we welcome Villa Park FC. The boys know the standards expected of them, and we’re fully aware there will be no easy games in this league.

What a rollercoaster these last four months have been for this team.

We started again with just 10 players. We spent the summer rebuilding the squad, playing games, improving, learning and working hard to become a proper team.

We entered two festivals and finished 3rd and 4th, then deliberately made pre-season difficult by arranging games against teams we knew would really challenge us and push the boys out of their comfort zone.

Then came the news that we had been placed in the C Challenge Cup.

We’ll admit it — there were a few nerves. We knew the level was going to be a massive step up.

But the worry quickly turned into belief.

And now, with only Gartcairn Whites and AC Rovers Airdrie 2012s left to play their final group game, it’s confirmed…

From building a team for the D League to stepping up against established C League sides and showing that we belong.

We genuinely could not be prouder of this group of boys and how far they have come in such a short space of time.

In a game where every single boy worked hard and did exactly what was asked of them, the coaches genuinely couldn’t pick one clear Man of the Match.

So we turned to the parents for the final decision… and even they couldn’t separate them! 👏🩷🩶

🧤 Lewis McCartney

Our No.1 was a rock at the back. His distribution, shot-stopping and overall play were fantastic, while his communication and control of the back line gave the team a solid base throughout the game.

A top all-round performance from Lewis.

🛡️ Adam Gribble

Adam was outstanding defensively and had a massive job on his hands against a player who scored over 50 goals last season.

He stood up to the challenge brilliantly, shut him down and produced an unreal defensive performance from start to finish.

Two massive performances in a brilliant team display.

🔥⚽ WHAT A DERBY! ⚽🔥

What can we say about that one? The boys were unreal today and, in dominant fashion, came away with all 3 points. 🩷🩶

We couldn’t have asked for a better start. Just 20 seconds into the game, Bilal whipped a corner towards the back post and watched it drop straight into the net to give us the lead! 🎯

Lewis Rodden added the second after Alfie Clarke burst forward with the ball and picked out a sublime pass. Lewis kept his composure and slotted it into the bottom corner.

Caden Quinn grabbed the third, reacting quickest after a scramble in the box and poking the ball home before the defence could clear.

Lewis then rounded off the scoring, reacting first to a centre-back's hesitation before calmly finding the bottom corner for his second of the game.

The boys did exactly what was asked of them today — win their battles, get the ball down and play football.

In truth, they controlled the game from start to finish and produced a brilliant team performance to round off the Challenge Cup group stage.
