Abingdon United Dev | Finchampstead

We welcomed Finchampstead to Northcourt for a competitive afternoon of football, with the weather thankfully staying dry until the final whistle.

Finchampstead came into the game unbeaten in the league, so we knew we were in for a tough one. The first half was a really even contest, with both sides competing well and creating chances. We had a few good opportunities ourselves but just could not find the back of the net.

The second half saw both teams come out looking for the win and the quality of football really stepped up. Char put in a brilliant shift, working tirelessly and doing a great job of keeping their wingers quiet.

Yas worked hard in the middle, helping us win the ball and giving us opportunities to get forward, while Izzy never stopped pressing and was a constant threat as we looked to create chances.

Precious was proper outstanding at the back, putting in a really strong performance and giving their strikers nothing to work with.

Around the 70th minute, Lorena popped up with another quality finish to put us in front. Another great goal from her and a huge moment in the game.

From there, we had to dig in and see it out. The girls worked their socks off, held their own and managed the game brilliantly to come away with a well deserved win.

Liv Day also came on for her first minutes with the team, A great start and plenty more to come.

A top performance from everyone against a strong Finchampstead side who were unbeaten coming into the game. Huge effort from the whole squad and a thoroughly deserved three points.

Staying focused for next week’s cup game v Woodley.

Abingdon 2–2 Barton

Abingdon welcomed Barton First Team for our second home fixture, with perfect conditions greeting both sides as the sun shone over the ground.

Abingdon made a bright start and quickly settled into the game, moving the ball well and looking composed in possession. The pressure soon told, with Lorena putting in a strong performance and opening the scoring to give the hosts a deserved lead.

Abingdon continued to control the game and were rewarded again just before the break, as Yas produced a stunning strike to send us into half-time two goals to the good.

The second half saw Abingdon start on the front foot once again, pushing for a third and looking to put the game beyond Barton. However, as the intensity began to take its toll, Barton found a way back into the contest with a well-taken goal.

The visitors then levelled the scores just minutes later, converting a free-kick from the edge of the box to make it 2–2.

We pushed hard in the closing stages in search of a winner, but time was against us and Barton held on for a share of the points.

A frustrating afternoon after holding a two-goal advantage but attention now turns to next weekend and our next fixture against Finchampstead.

Chesham 2-3 Abingdon

A winning start on the road.

Abingdon travelled to Chesham for the opening game of the season, with a full squad ready to get the campaign underway at Chiltern Academy.

Despite the heat on the 3G, the team started brightly and looked sharp in the opening 45. Good possession, strong movement and a number of chances created saw Abingdon take control of the game, with Sasha getting the goal her performance deserved.

Chesham came out strongly after the break and enjoyed a spell of pressure, controlling large periods of the second half and moving the ball well.

Abingdon, however, showed good character to weather the pressure and hit back when it mattered. Petal added a second before Sasha grabbed her brace to put the result beyond doubt.

A strong opening-day performance and a positive result on the road. Plenty to build on.

We’re delighted to welcome seven talented new players to the squad. Each brings their own qualities, character and strengths, and we can’t wait to see them in action this season.

✨ Oliwia Stankowska
A technically gifted and intelligent player who brings composure, focus and a strong understanding of the game. We’re really excited to see Oliwia develop with us. Previously with Easington Sport.

💫 Imogen Hunt
A versatile and creative player who combines technical ability with a top work ethic. Imogen brings energy, determination and a willingness to contribute across the pitch. Currently at Procision Academy and Barton U18s.

🔥 Precious Kujore
A very talented player with an excellent reading of the game and an impressive work rate. Precious brings energy, intensity and the ability to create magic in the final third. Previously with Oxford City Devs.

🧤 Anna Clayson-Ward
A quality goalkeeper with excellent handling, confidence and a fantastic attitude. Anna provides a calm and reliable presence between the posts, and we’re delighted to have her with us. Previously with Oxford City Devs.

🌟 Petal Phillips
A technically strong and intelligent player with excellent movement and a real appetite to improve. Petal’s work ethic and team-first mentality make her a great addition, and she has a very exciting future ahead. A Procision player from the JPL U18 girls league.

⚡ Violet Phillips
A dynamic player with excellent technical ability and a positive approach to the game. Violet has the confidence to demand the ball and the ability to influence matches. Another exciting Procision addition who we’re looking forward to seeing thrive.

🕊️ Raveen Purba
A quick and energetic player who combines intelligent movement with a strong work rate. Raveen has an excellent ability to find space, move the ball effectively and contribute positively to the team.

Heads down, hard work ahead.

With last season's experience in the Southern Region Women's League under our belts, we're quietly getting to work for 26/27. Pleased to have a solid group staying on to build foundations and add more depth:

Charlotte: Strong team player who reads the striker well and gives us stability at the back.

Lilly: Back fit and working hard, always a danger up top to add options in the final third.

Frida: Strong, quick, and puts in a proper shift at the back to strengthen our defensive options.

Amelie: Reads the game well and brings quality all over the pitch, giving us great tactical flexibility.

Sasha: Fast grafter up front who adds energy and loves to chip in with goals

Ellie: Clever movement and a decent finish, bringing crucial competition in the box.

Yas: Strong in the middle, gives it everything right to the last minute,
and a top player all round.
