PLAYER SPONSORSHIPS

In a bid to raise additional funds, Westdyke AFC are now welcoming individual player sponsorships for the 2026/27 season.

The price is £50 for the season per player.

These player sponsorships are a good way for companies to support a local club whilst also raise awareness and visibility of their business, as the club social media accounts have seen over 75,000 views since starting in June. We aren’t only accepting companies, the player sponsorships are also available to any individuals who wish to support the club.

We are also on the lookout for club sponsors to help fund new kits, if you wish to hear more about this opportunity, please contact someone at the club, or the club social media accounts.

Over the past weeks we have made some further additions to our playing squad.

Starting off with central midfielder Aaryn McKenna. Aaryn joins us after spending some time playing in the USA. He is a hard-working and technical player who will be a great addition to our squad.

Next is Eli Kriston who is moving up from our Under 18's Development squad. Eli is a top young player who brings great versatility as he can comfortably play across the backline and in midfield.

Last but certainly not least we have signed goalkeeper Brogan Coates. Brogan joins us from playing Sunday League with Westhill FC, and has previously played at Newmacher United. He has been training with the squad since the tail-end of last season so we know exactly what he adds to the squad, but we are delighted to get him signed up.

WESTDYKE 5-1 BEACON

Five goals capped off a five-star performance as we cruised to a 5-1 win against league leaders Beacon Rangers AFC.

The game started at a frantic pace with chances coming at both ends. Balls down the flanks were proving fruitful as the two goalkeepers were being called into action in the early stages.

We opened the scoring after 15 minutes when Owen Wyness danced his way through a couple of tackles on his way into the box and guided a left-footed finish into the near corner.

Our lead was doubled just minutes later when Finlay Mitchell darted in behind, drove to the by-line and picked out Adam Whitehead who tapped the ball home from a few yards out.

We started the second half sluggishly, with Beacon coming out determined to get back into the game. Defensively, we were doing enough to limit them to half chances, but they did serve as warnings that we had to step it up again.

And we did just that. Around 10 minutes into the second half we scored another. It was almost a carbon copy of our second as Mitchell ran down the right and slid the ball across for Whitehead to tap home again - our two wingers were terrorising the Beacon full-backs every time they went forward.

After setting up the previous two, Finlay Mitchell got himself on the scoresheet to make it 4-0. It came after brilliant work down the right-hand side from Wyness, beating a couple of defenders before cutting it back for Mitchell to fire home.

Mitchell grabbed his second goal soon after to put the game beyond all doubt. He was the one scoring from close range this time after Fraser Campbell turned his man down the left and rolled the ball across the goal where Mitchell could not miss.

The only blot on our copybook came around ten minutes from the end when Beacon worked their way into our box before their forward squeezed a shot past Jay Provan for a consolation goal.

As frustrating as it was to concede late on, it did not take away from the quality of our performance. Our fast and fluid forward play was just too much for our opposition to handle and we walked off with a deserved three points.

WESTDYKE 2-1 GLENDALE

This time it was a late goal of our own that settled the three points as we picked up our first victory of the season in an excellent 2-1 win away to Glendale AFC.

The game was a close affair from minute one, with Glendale forcing the issue and us hitting them with pace on the break. The end-to-end pattern of play made for plenty of opportunities, but good defending from both sides kept anything clear-cut to a minimum.

We found plenty of joy with balls over the top of Glendale's high line, using the pace of Adam Whitehead and Alex Olmeda on the wings. It was that pairing that created our first goal on the half-hour mark when Olmeda played a ball through to Whitehead, whose strike carried enough power to hit the underside of the goalkeeper and still find the net.

The second half was always going to be a tough shift for us with only two outfield substitutes to bring on, so it was a big blow when Glendale levelled with 25 minutes still to play. A central free-kick was floated into our penalty area where it took a flick off the head of a Westdyke defender and nestled into the bottom corner.

Despite the setback, we continued to play with the same grit and determination that we had been showing all game. The fresh legs of Eli Kriston and Fraser Campbell made a huge difference in the middle of the park, with both making an impact in their competitive debuts for us.

Our persistence was rewarded just five minutes from time when Owen Walker found space on the right flank and fired a first-time cross into the box to find Cory Booth, who stretched to guide the ball in off the post.

As a team we showed real spirit to fight all the way to the final whistle to seal the win. We got no less than what we deserved and we will aim to make sure that feeling becomes a familiar one for the rest of the season to come.
