💪 FUN FACT FRIDAY!

Did you know… after the age of 30 we can gradually start losing muscle if we don’t actively work to maintain it? 😲

And as we get older, maintaining that muscle becomes even more important.

The good news?

👉 Strength training can help!

Regular resistance training helps us:
✨ Maintain and build muscle
💪 Stay strong for everyday life
🦴 Support healthy bones
⚖️ Improve body composition
🔥 Support our metabolism
❤️ Stay active and independent as we age

So if the scales aren’t moving, but you’re getting stronger, feeling fitter and your clothes are fitting better, don’t underestimate your progress. The scales are only one measure of success.

Building and maintaining muscle is an investment in your future self. 💪❤️

Happy Friday! 🙌

💪 WHY MAINTAINING MUSCLE CAN BE MORE IMPORTANT THAN LOSING WEIGHT

We are often taught that success means seeing the number on the scales go DOWN.

But especially as we get older, I’d much rather my clients focus on keeping and building muscle than simply becoming lighter.

Why? 👇

🏋️ Muscle keeps you strong - making everyday life easier, from carrying shopping to climbing stairs.

🔥 Muscle supports your metabolism - your body uses more energy maintaining muscle than it does fat.

🦴 Strength training supports your bones - particularly important for women as we move through our 40s, 50s and beyond.

⚖️ The scales don’t tell the whole story - you can lose body fat, gain muscle and completely change your body shape without seeing a huge change in weight.

💪 Muscle helps us stay independent - strength, balance and mobility become increasingly important as we age.

So instead of always asking…

“How much weight have I lost?”

Try asking:
👉 Am I getting stronger?
👉 Do my clothes fit better?
👉 Do I have more energy?
👉 Am I moving better?
👉 Can I lift heavier than I could a few months ago?

Fat loss can still be a goal - but don’t sacrifice muscle just to make the scales move faster.

Train for the body you want to live in, not just the number you want to see on the scales. 💪❤️

✨ FRIDAY FITNESS FACT ✨Worried lifting weights will make you bulky? 💪Strength training doesn’t suddenly make women bulky...

✨ FRIDAY FITNESS FACT ✨

Worried lifting weights will make you bulky? 💪

Strength training doesn’t suddenly make women bulky.

Building significant muscle takes time, progressive training and consistent nutrition.

For most women strength training is much more likely to help you:

💪 Feel stronger
✨ Build and maintain lean muscle
🦴 Support bone health
🔥 Improve body composition
🏃‍♀️ Make everyday life easier

So don’t be afraid to pick up those weights!

Lifting weights won’t suddenly make you bulky - but it can make you stronger, more capable and more confident. ❤️

For me strength training isn’t just about how I look…

I strength train because I want to…

💪 Stay strong as I get older
🦴 Look after my bones
🔥 Maintain muscle and support my metabolism
🏃‍♀️ Keep doing the things I enjoy
⚖️ Improve my balance and stability
❤️ Feel fit, capable and confident

I’m in my 50s and my goal isn’t to exercise to make myself smaller, it’s to build a body that’s strong enough to support me for the years ahead.

You don’t need to lift the heaviest weights in the gym - you don’t even need to go to a gym!

You just need to start, stay consistent and gradually get stronger.

Strong isn’t just for your 20s and 30s. 💪

Exercise is hugely beneficial, but exercise alone doesn’t guarantee weight loss.

Three common reasons are:

1. You’re eating back the calories you’ve burned 🍽️
Exercise can increase appetite, and it’s very easy to consume more calories than you realise - even when the foods you’re choosing are healthy.

2. You’re focusing too much on the scales ⚖️
If you’ve started strength training, changes in muscle, glycogen and water can mask fat loss on the scales. Look at waist measurements, how clothes fit, photos and strength improvements too.

3. Your everyday movement has dropped 🚶‍♀️
Sometimes people train hard for an hour but then unconsciously move less for the rest of the day. Your overall daily activity matters.

**Don’t respond by simply exercising more and eating less**

A better approach is to strength train consistently, keep active through the day, prioritise protein and fibre, watch portion sizes and aim for a modest, sustainable calorie deficit.

Train smart : eat well : move daily : be consistent
