Hello there

This has been a Summer like no Summer before. Heat wave after heat wave kept me away from work - I've tried, mind you, and it almost ended badly every time ; you'll therefore understand that I preferred preserving my health.
Hopefully now temperatures will be more manageable, and this forced time away from the shop made me realise it was time for a much needed workplace overhaul. I'm therefore under the process of tidying up/rearranging/streamlining the place, as although functional, most things there were still at the spot they were dropped during the move. Once this is done, things should be easier, faster, and better.
All this meaning that yes, I'm a bit behind the behind, but hopefully I'll be able to get in touch individually and with good news.

In the meantime, enjoy this wee warrior from the Grim Darkness of the Far Future :

Brother-Librarian Jaquiel, Keeper of the Seven Keys, Legion I "Dark Angels"

Although initially following the dictates of the Council of Nikaea, the usual pragmatism of Lion El'Jonson quickly took over, and the Primarch of the First Legion quickly ordered his psychically-attuned warriors to put their powers to use.
In a Legion ridden with secrets within secrets, orders within orders, it is hard to say what the title born by Brother Jaquiel precisely refers to, yet is it of enough importance to be openly displayed on his personal heraldry.

This is a heavily modified conversion based on the Steloc Aethon miniature ("The Honoured", Captain of the 19th Company of Legion XIII "Ultramarines" - easily available second-hand).
Citadel/warhammer paints, lots of bits also. The heraldry was done freehand - and 3 Monster Energy drinks sure didn't help.

Stay safe.

European Commission - Have your say 10/08/2026

Spending time there is always good, and spending it with friends is even better !

Hello there

Today I was back at the as part of the aftermath of MesserFest 2026 - which was a blast !
The Armouries are closed on Mondays, but we got treated with some time in the storage room with fellow delegates.
Thanks to all who made it possible - I'm not talking just of today, but the entire thing.
Pics were taken, talks were had, and good things will ensue hopefully.

Tomorrow is dedicated to some sightseeing and visits in the beautiful city of York, before the winds of adventure push me southwards.

Stay safe

Hello there

Tyrant Siege Terminator Squad, Legion IV "Iron Warriors".

Perturabo's elite, clad in formidable Cataphractii war-plate and armed with Cyclone missile launchers, they were at the forefront of siege-breaking operations.
It did not, however, mae them immune to the scrutiny and judgement of the Hammer of Olympia, and this squad under command of Sargeant Melech Ukrad was no exception.
There is no redemption to be expected from the Primarch, still, a fact that every Iron Warrior knows and accepts, and therefore Ukrad and his men - each a warrior of impressive skill on their own - march without any feeling of bitterness save the one so usual amongst Astartes of the IV towards a future of fire and death, be it theirs or their enemy's.

Citadel/Warhammer/Coat d'Arms paints, inks and washes.

There again a play with inks and washes and contrast paints to bring life and texture to these models from Forge World. Poses wee limited however, and I tried to keep each miniature within their own decorative style (round nails, pyramid nails etc).
Oh, and hazard stripes... though on these ones their placement and separation was clearly marked on the models.

Hello there

Tekathikos squad, Legion IV "Iron Warriors".

The initial reluctance of Perturabo towards the Saturnine pattern armour was quickly obliterated when he witnessed their efficiency at the Isstvan V Dropsite Massacre, and the Hammer of Olympia deployed them en masse at the Siege of Inwit, the homeworld of Legion VII - the Imperial Fists, arch-rivals of the Iron Warriors in the Art of Poliorcetics - where they were known as the Tekathikos, the "Mountain Breakers".
This squad, under command of Sargeant Sakkos Akkoros, survived the targeted operations of the Inwit defenders and was later on affected under the command of Warsmith Ekropos. Not paying much heed to the reputation of their superior officer, Akkoros and his men would only relish this new opportunity for inflicting destruction, taking cold delight in the superlative power of their weapons and the near-indestructibility of their war-plate.

Citadel/Warhammer paints, with the help of Coat d'Arms.

Painting Iron Warriors isn't as straightforward as it seems, and is a nice opportunity at playing with the textures and finishes of metal. A thoughtful use of contrast paints, washes, and inks on a base of good old Leadbelcher helps bringing out more depth and life to the miniature.

Oh, and the hazard stripes...
Tell you the truth, more so than their treachery, siding with Horus and all, or more so than the personality and petulance of their Primarch, it's painting these bloody stripes that makes me hate the the most those heretics.

I both loathe and enjoy the extreme poseability of the Saturnine miniatures - the latter because it allows for a near infinite variety, and the former because most of the times glue would work on my fingers rather than on the mini...
To add to that, I'd say that each pose should tell a story, as if the miniature was a self-contained unit of both lore and action, though in that regard sometimes less is more, and going to extremes of dynamic posing could be a risk for off-putting.

Sharing this again - mostly for the link (go see and treat yourself) but also for this :

I'll be taking a trip in the UK this July, as some of you may know. I'll be teaching at MesserFest in York , International Rapier Seminar in Oxford, and FightCamp in Newbury, with time to k1ll somehow in between these events (though I'm heading to the Royal Armouries on Monday 13, and taking the follwing Tuesday to visit York while I'm there), and need to be in/near Oxford on the 17th - and my options are (relatively) open. Or in other words : I might need places to crash at/people to put me up when not teaching here and there. I've got several options, some of them almost confirmed, but it would also be a nice oportunity for yours truly to be a tourist in the Isles of Britain for a while, and not just a Stranger in a Strange Land.

Oh and also, I'd like to go to Warhammer World again 🙂

Also : there is a possibility for my current stock to be brought over (not by me though for obvious reasons) to one of the events I'll attend (not MesserFest though) - let me know if you'd be interested in that.

And in other news : I'm recovering from the exhaustion caused by the heatwave, and will try, in the time between now and my departure to the UK, to make progress on as much stuff as I can.

Now, really, have a look at the link and make yourself happy.
Really.

I won't lie to you, work is slow these days due to the curent heatwave - the worst we had so far.

So, I'm trying to preserve myself. Or, if you prefer, to stay alive. I try working at night when temps are more manageable (and that's not before 23h00 local), but not all type of work is doable then (my neighbours might disagree with me hammering steel, for example).

Still, progress is made, albeit slowly, and it comes at the price of my own physical exhaustion. For working at night means sleeping during the day, and in 38+ degrees centigrade, that's not quality sleep. And no, I don't have AC in the house, and can't afford it (plus AC isn't a sustainable solution).

So in the meantime, why not having a look here and treat yourself ?
