📢 Public Seminar | U.S.–Pacific Resilience and Adaptation Fellowship Programme (U.S.–PRAFP)

Join us for the public seminar “Pan-Pacific Relationships: Building Resilience Across the Food Systems Pillars”, featuring Dr Ashley McGuigan from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, alongside U.S.–PRAFP scholars from The University of the South Pacific.

The seminar will explore research and practical approaches to strengthening food security, sustainable agriculture and resilient food systems across the Pacific, highlighting the importance of partnerships, innovation and knowledge exchange.

The Pacific Agricultural Scholarship & Support Program (PASS) supports eligible candidates to undertake a Master’s by Research or PhD at The University of the South Pacific (USP).

Yesterday at the Holiday Inn, the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research(ACIAR), The University of the South Pacific (USP) and Fiji National University (FNU), entered a new partnership arrangement to collaboratively deliver the redesigned Pacific Agriculture Scholarships and Support (PASS) Program (https://www.aciar.gov.au/scholarships/pass)

Building on the achievements of the program since its establishment in 2008, the redesigned PASS initiative solidifies a partnership arrangement between ACIAR, FNU and USP to ensure research and capacity development activities are strongly aligned to the Pacific research agenda and responsive to the needs of Pacific countries and institutions.

Speaking at the launch on behalf of USP, the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Education & Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor for Research & Innovation (DVCE & ADVCRI), Prof Jito Vanualailai, re-emphasized USP's commitment to the partnership, to fostering a deep and lasting culture of research and innovation across the Pacific. He further added that building research capability within our region remains essential as this is the only way to achieving sustainable development outcomes.

Today's launch marks a milestone in the long standing relationship between ACIAR, FNU & USP leading up to the release of the next call of applications for 2027.

Applications are now open for the 2026 intake for the Pacific Scholarship for Excellence in Research and Innovation (PSERI).

Applications are open for the U.S.-Pacific Resilience and Adaptation Fellowship Program, a fully funded scholarship initiative for eligible citizens of USP member countries.

This prestigious program, led by USP and supported by the U.S. government, focuses on building Pacific leadership in tackling climate change and advancing sustainable development. Successful applicants will pursue research with top U.S. universities in fields like marine science, food security, public health, and more.
