EXPRESSION OF INTEREST | WORLD ATHLETICS CECS LEVEL I WORKSHOP

Athletics Fiji, in partnership with World Athletics and Oceania Athletics, is calling for Expressions of Interest from Central Division Primary School Teachers to participate in the World Athletics Coaches’ Education Certification System (CECS) Level I Workshop.

This is a fantastic opportunity for primary school teachers to strengthen their coaching knowledge, develop practical skills and gain valuable education through the World Athletics coaching pathway.

Maryann finishes 10th in the World Athletics U20 Championships Final! 👏🇫🇯

What an incredible campaign by one of Fiji's brightest young stars.

Just weeks ago, Maryann entered the World Athletics U20 Championships ranked 64th in the world with a personal best of 14.76m. Many would have been content just to compete on the world stage—but Maryann had other plans.

In qualification, she produced the performance of a lifetime, launching the shot 16.04m to shatter her personal best, set a new Fiji National Record, and qualify 4th overall for the final among the world's best young athletes.

In the final, Maryann once again showed her class, recording 15.04m to finish 10th in the world—an extraordinary achievement that places her among the elite of global junior athletics.

From 64th in the world ➡️ 4th after qualification ➡️ 10th overall in the World Final. That is a journey every young athlete in Fiji can be inspired by.

Congratulations, Maryann! Your determination, resilience and fearless attitude have made the entire nation proud. You have shown that athletes from our small island nation can compete with the very best in the world despite limited resources and funding.

It has been many years since Fiji has produced a field event athlete capable of making such an impact on the international stage.

This is not the end of the story. It is only the beginning. The future is incredibly bright, and we cannot wait to see what comes next.

SETTLED IN EUGENE 🇫🇯

Maryann Macedru has settled in well in Eugene, Oregon, as her preparations continue for the World Athletics U20 Championships Oregon 2026.

One of the highlights of her arrival has been the opportunity to meet someone she has admired for sometime — four-time World Champion in the Women's Shot Put, Dame Valerie Adams (New Zealand). An inspiring moment for Maryann as she prepares to compete on the world stage.

Athletics Fiji is proud to congratulate Maryann Macedru on qualifying and being selected to represent Team Fiji at the 2026 World Athletics U20 Championships in Eugene, Oregon, USA.

Maryann secured her place on the world stage with a phenomenal performance at the 2026 Oceania Athletics Championships, where she produced a new personal best of 14.76m in the Women's Shot Put. That outstanding throw not only broke the Fiji National Record but also surpassed the World Athletics U20 Championships qualifying standard of 14.50m, earning her qualification for the global event.

The 2026 World Athletics U20 Championships will be held at the University of Oregon Track in Eugene, Oregon, USA, from 5th–9th August 2026, bringing together the world's best young athletes to compete at the highest level.
