She left a bank job in Suva in 2023 to study and compete in Australia and graduated from Griffith University - the first from Fiji to complete the Oceania Australia Foundation athletics business scholarship, three years of training, competing and representing Fiji alongside a full degree.

Her story is in this week’s Team Fiji Bulatin in The Fiji Times, with high jumper Rusiate Matai in the athlete spotlight.

This is the highest achievement ever reached by Fiji Basketball on the international stage.

Our final Safeguarding Champion for this month's Safe Sport campaign is Jane Wong-Niubalavu, Trainings, Programmes & Games Manager at the Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (FASANOC), and the organisation's first Safeguarding Officer.

A dedicated Team Up Safeguarding Champion, Jane completed the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Safeguarding Officer in Sport Certificate in 2025 and continues to advocate for safe, inclusive and supportive sporting environments for children and young people.

Jane's passion for safeguarding reflects a simple but powerful belief: every child should be able to participate in sport feeling safe, valued, included and free to thrive.

Team Up is the Australian Government's sport for development program in the Pacific.

At last nights Team Fiji Thanksgiving Dinner, Minister for Youth and Sports Hon. Jese Saukuru, presented awards to Taniela Rainibogi, weightlifting gold medalist and Jasmine Daunakamakama, boxing bronze medalist, in recognition of their outstanding performances at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.
